Implications * 1
    #29651475 -

If reality is created by consciousness, if consciousness is the universe observing itself, what are the implications of the exponential rise in births of creatures with higher consciousness? In less than 500 years we've gone from under 500 million people to over 7 billion (allegedly). If observation or consciousness creates reality, is this correlated with a exponential rise in the creation of reality? Is that what technology is, because that's the only thing I can think of that increases with population increase. I don't know, just something I was thinking of listening to some physicist talking about consciousness the other day. Something irks me about the idea of consciousness creating reality. I really don't think that is the case. Or we are the universe observing itself. Doesn't seem necessary.

the idea of consciousness creating reality
in terms other than poetic expression of one's thinking,
is fashionable in physics and relates to some confusion about how the observer collapses the wave to a particle in some quantum contexts.

fashionable is the only term I can use but also it brings to mind the emperor's new clothes and the future embarrassment of the physics academies when fashion turns to something more tangible and fitting.

who doesn't like cats anyway... it's a bit like that.

yea thats a good way to put it. its just a way to get people interested in physics by putting a pseudo-spiritual twist on physics experiments.

I have the same issue with reincarnation. how can there be reincarnation with an exponential increase in population.

fashionable in woo woo meta-physics. the von Neumann–Wigner interpretation of the wave function wasn't even embraced by von Neumann, and Wigner himself said he his theory was wrong.

The question doesn't come through culture, it comes to any child who wonders about dreams.

How can you know you aren't dreaming?

in what way would you use the information about knowing that you are not dreaming, especially if in fact, were we not dreaming to some extent all the time, then our associative minds would not be functioning at all.

when we are awake, environmental sensory signals get through and provide useful navigation cues to the dreamers that we are and always have been.

I'm arguing the origination isn't fashion, but a natural question any kid probably has at some point. I think it may have the function of reducing confirmation bias, but my argument doesn't depend on usefulness.

you can claim that external signals exist, but you can't know. Maybe I built a real machine that can measure the spin of an electron, maybe I dreamed I did.

Adding the thought that my thoughts are accurate representations of a true external reality seems like a useless extra step. I wish I could make myself believe my thoughts were accurate representations of reality but I don't know how, so don't know how to compare the different perspectives.

fussing about the reality of sensations discounts the essential dream nature of all mental contents.

you may as well be wondering if you ever woke up and actually left the bed. Hopefully this happens often enough that the bed is not full of pee.

i know i'm not dreaming cause i don't piss in my dreams. nor do i see smart phones. i piss and use cell phones in real life. I also shit in real life and have never even come close to sitting on a toilet in my dreams

sure, anything is possible, that's the point. We can't confirm that we know anything, so why pretend that we do? What's the point of that?

of adding the idea that our model is true to our model of reality

why pretend i can confirm a thought in a fundamental way? I don't see any value from that

the real world implications are already in progress,
many climate and environmental and health datasets have been dismantled due to pseudo-spiritual theories, but the flat earthers are still in their bunkers

Higher consciousness is "an expanded state of awareness where a person looks past their own ego, basic survival needs, and personal worries"

Isn't technology fueling a reduction in human consciousness?
