This.

American wealthy were taxed at quasi-confiscatory rates. This was the most equal time in america couple with most growth.
Inequality IS the issue here fosho.

Guys I figured it out. The rift in the democratic party is a division between the bourgeoisie middle class and progressive lower class.

The liberal centrists make life even easier for the middle class people that are already living the American Dream. The concerns of the lower class lefties aren't felt as urgently.

DSA should just threaten to split off. If the DSA half stopped voting for centrists, they would be unelectable. Might have to endure a decade of republican shenanigans to let it sink in. I heard it's called accelerationism.

40 years of incrementalism? Or 10 of accelerationism?

I guess the only problem would be the middle class could more easily weather a war of attrition. They'd probably vote republican before voting for an actual socialist.

All the centrists care about is voting against Trump. They have ceased offering something to vote for. So I can't understand what liberal's big issue is with coalescing on an anti-Trump DSA candidate vs an anti-Trump establishment candidate. The only thing I can think of is the class difference. They may not admit it, they'll make up excuses about strategically voting for the most electable (moderate) candidate, but it's really about protecting their socio-economic status.

Socialism is a threat to their living standards, probably bigger than Trump's threat if it really built momentum. Kinda funny how being in the middle, they are fighting greed from one side and desperation from the other. Centrists just want to preserve their cushy status quo, and throw a couple scraps down below.

Yeah its a class thing bro. The only way to fix it is to erase that divide and vote together mid class and working class.
They have to understand they arent who we wanna tax.
We want the ultra wealthy.

Problem is the middle class is not as philanthropic as they like to think they are. There's middle class DSA people that are like "Sweet, free healthcare would allow me to retire five years early", or allow them to buy a second property for passive income, or whatever other capitalist wet dreams keep them up at night. We can't hitch the movement to these people.

Healthcare wouldn't allow someone to retire early, it would mean they have a better chance of retiring at all without having to worry about having done everything right their whole lives only to lose it all to sickness or a chance accident.

Universal healthcare is in all other developed countries, so any example you can think of should be present throughout them.

While implementing it would require an income tax raise, it would also remove the private tax of healthcare creating a net saving, but this may be lost on many Americans the same way a 1/3 pounder burger for the same price was viewed as less than a 1/4 pounder burger.

Quote:
Did Third-of-a-Pound Burger Fail Because People Didn't Understand Fractions?

One of the most vivid arithmetic failings displayed by Americans occurred in the early 1980s, when the A&W restaurant chain released a new hamburger to rival the McDonald's Quarter Pounder. With a third-pound of beef, the A&W burger had more meat than the Quarter Pounder; in taste tests, customers preferred A&W's burger. And it was less expensive. A lavish A&W television and radio marketing campaign cited these benefits. Yet instead of leaping at the great value, customers snubbed it.

Only when the company held customer focus groups did it become clear why. The Third Pounder presented the American public with a test in fractions. And we failed. Misunderstanding the value of one-third, customers believed they were being overcharged. Why, they asked the researchers, should they pay the same amount for a third of a pound of meat as they did for a quarter-pound of meat at McDonald's. The "4" in "¼," larger than the "3" in "⅓," led them astray.

You can't win with out them or they with out you and what you list is a good thing and not a bad thing.  Much better then just work harder with no hope of improvement or life getting better as you age.  That is exactly who I want to hitch my wagon to so that more can experience it.

Do people with 1-5 million in cash and investments really need more? They deserve five more years of living like a lord, doing nothing? I'm not going to ever get to retire at this rate, social security isn't guaranteed; but sure, let's give land-owning millionaires more.

There is a cap on social security payments thats only to the firdt 180k or so which means Elon Musk pays as much into social security as a well off nurse.

Universal healthcare means everyone gets a base, someone earning 5 million plus could easily afford private insurance to skip waiting lines.

What do you mean giving land owning millionaires more though?

Guess it depends on what you count as investments.  These days, a person with 1.5 million total and ssa is not going to be what I consider rich or poor.  I would like more to have it and yes, retire 5 years early.  As far as retirement goes, that doesn't mean doing nothing, though it can, but more means freedom to chose what you do with your time.

You don't need but bread, water and shelter but only having that is not life.  The life is what needs shared and opportunity for that life widened to the masses.

You remind me of a person at work that stood all day even when given the opportunity to sit.  I ask him why he would do that and he said some of the other people had to stand.  I told him that that is the difference between me and him.  I want other people to have the opportunity to sit some too and not just for me only.
