Enough people care about policy for it to matter in an election.

It's almost like you're saying policy doesnt matter, and if that's the case i clearly disagree.

Location is important and is a factor in itself of where some support goes, and while I'm sure many don't care or know, suggesting most voters dont care is a claim too far imo.

I don't think it can be substantiated easily, especially when there are polls for things like universal healthcare, paid parental and sick leave, minimum wage increases, thc legalisation etc, where the majority are in favour.

And I believe championing those policies and staying on message is an effective campaigning tool, as we've seen with Mamdani, and now so far with El Sayed.

lol if i lived in a coutnry with non of those things i'd be voting for whoever was going to bring them in, regardless of political faction, race, colour or anything else (i have no idea why anyone would not want those things) .

I think people are wising up to character attacks, though. I frankly don't care what the demographic of a politician is, even if they're a half asian woman like I'm voting for tomorrow. I don't care about what they're labeled as, "socialist" or whatever. I don't care about their experience. For me it's about individual policies, and I don't need to agree with all of them. I know democracy can't bring swift, big change, so I'm mostly voting for 2-3 policy positions that I want a chance of happening. Getting money out of politics, and protecting working class people from the business class.

Guys I figured it out. The rift in the democratic party is a division between the bourgeoisie middle class and progressive lower class.

The liberal centrists make life even easier for the middle class people that are already living the American Dream. The concerns of the lower class lefties aren't felt as urgently.

DSA should just threaten to split off. If the DSA half stopped voting for centrists, they would be unelectable. Might have to endure a decade of republican shenanigans to let it sink in. I heard it's called accelerationism.

40 years of incrementalism? Or 10 of accelerationism?

I guess the only problem would be the middle class could more easily weather a war of attrition. They'd probably vote republican before voting for an actual socialist.

All the centrists care about is voting against Trump. They have ceased offering something to vote for. So I can't understand what liberal's big issue is with coalescing on an anti-Trump DSA candidate vs an anti-Trump establishment candidate. The only thing I can think of is the class difference. They may not admit it, they'll make up excuses about strategically voting for the most electable (moderate) candidate, but it's really about protecting their socio-economic status.

Socialism is a threat to their living standards, probably bigger than Trump's threat if it really built momentum. Kinda funny how being in the middle, they are fighting greed from one side and desperation from the other. Centrists just want to preserve their cushy status quo, and throw a couple scraps down below.

Agree to disagree gww. While you see cuts to snap and healthcare as reducing scaps to the people.  I see it as a net benefit to cause of reducing the welfare state and riots proceeds the income gap.

I'm saying capitalism is inherently broken. And if not enough people see that yet, it's only a matter of time. Arguably it'd be more humane to self-harm by voting for MAGA instead of non-DSA democrats; if that's what it'll take for people in rooms not currently on fire to realize the house is burning.
