For outdoor stuff, I never do anything more than case and tent

So I found some cincts growing in my area recently, and I've begun cultivating mycelium from spores on agar. Once this is ready I'm gonna make some liquid culture and grain spawn.

I like the idea of growing cincts outdoors, since they naturally grow here. The idea is to have so many cincts growing that the green in my lawn is barely visible. It seems like an cheap, easy, and sustainable way to get a constant crop of shrooms once everything is in place.

Now I have a massive pile of horse poop in my back yard, more than enough to cover my whole yard about an inch. I think once my spawn is ready, I will mix it up in a wheelbarrow with the horse poop, and spread it all over the yard.

Any suggestions or critiques of my proposed method are appreciated as I have never grown outdoors before. Thanks!

I would not spread that over the entire yard honestly. The nutrient rich horse poop might as well be uncolonized grain getting thrown around willy nilly. It'll be a buffet for everything including the mycelium. I think a smarter approach might be to do some flower beds with grass seed and plenty of hay or leaf litter to case it.

The main concern in regards to your plan, in my mind, is the lack of a casing layer. You would ideally want to cover the mycelium to sort of lock the moisture in. If you just toss mycelium everywhere, a lot of it could dry out.
If you don't mind my asking, what's the climate where you are? Do you have tree cover and decent shade?

agricultural zone 7b. There are some decent shady spots I can plant in. So would you recommend I mix the spawn with bulk substrate (i.e. manure) before adding the casing layer, or should I pass on the manure entirely and just add the casing?

I'm not experienced enough to be able to give you an opinion that is worth a damn, if I'm being completely honest. You could always give both a shot though.
I feel like putting colonized grain in a hole with manure could be super productive, especially if you let them spore freely on everything.

I have Pan Cyans, and Psil Cubes, 4x different ones of each. Was wanting to to just do the Cubes first since they are easier to work with. But willing to have both so I can better prep my outdoor area for the future. I am in climate 9a zone.

I want to build a box like the original poster, or so, and I am trying to figure out if the bottom of the planters are open to soil or sealed off, or have cardboard under them.

Doesn't appear there's nothing but soil, I'm sure stipe can fill us in if he read this.

I personally would probably lay down some weed supressing fabric in the bottom.

I’ve never used weed matt fabric. Not a bad Idea. I do use 1/2” wire mesh under outdoor parches. It keeps gophers and moles at bay.

I did it with my Azur patch because I wanted a thin layer of leca underneath in case of a lot of rain and didn't want standing water, but I really don't know a whole lot about outdoor growing, yet

Cardboard sheets colonize well though after testing I can say if u have to water ur chips often for any reason the cardboard will break down n become a slimy mess from watering n potentially be a breeding ground for anaerobic bs

I have relocated n flipped the cardboard to expand the patch quicker though n broke off the attached chips πŸš€πŸ€£

A wire mesh is genius as it won't colonize n will slightly increase airflow/ keep pests out

A fabric mesh can probably be colonized and would probably get consolidated by mycelium which could potentially cause lack of air at the bottom of a tub

(Kloakk I'm talking out my azz xd no experience with fabric just guessing what would happen s2)

Well, not a whole lot are doing cubes outdoors, but do it as you would a tub except put a proper casing on it with something with low nutes like cactus or seedling soil because coir dries out real fast outside.

For cubes? I guess they hold some water, but that's about all the cubes can use wood for.
