I will not allow myself to become dependent on medication. I don't think I need it, anyway. There have been long stretches where I felt whole. I am interested in finding what it is that I need in my life to feel whole again.

First time in adult life I no longer feel the need to self medicate since march this year after I started going to sunday morning worship regularly and for the first time in my life last summer. Tried EVERYTHING known to man to combat war trauma and depression, drank 30+g shroom teas every 7-10 days for a few months each year in 2016-2020. Was in Peru 3.5 months drank ungodly amounts of Ayahuasca every week in the jungle in 2016, Was on Ibobain treatment/therapy in Amsterdam a year before that. One night I was badly tormented by ptsd symptoms that night ended up taking 3 very strong Benzo pills to help out, in the past 1.5 of those would numb me completely but this time 3 didnt even take the enge off. I started panicking later in the night (grew up in Atheistic communist Yugoslavia never thought about religion and stuff) that night I was so broken I literally jst went on my knees and tried googling real quick how christians pray to Jesus cause I was vaguelu aware from movies and shows that Jesus relieves of pain, could even read the articles about prayer I just started speaking from the floor "God please if you're real do something" not mcuh happened but I felt a bit eased. A few hours later I had a profound mystical experience that came out of nowhere that changed me forever. Life's weird like than.

Hang in there and just know that there is always hope and change around the corner however that may present itself for you, it can be anything, but hope is a good thing :mushroom2::heart:

That's awesome. But keep your wits about you. A few years ago they wanted to put my 17yo daughter on Risperdal, it's what got me cultivating again. I figured shrooms could only help, that shit _hurts_. Unless you're legit schizophrenic.

She's fine now and doesn't even know dad grows.

I was on a similar drug for over 8 years.  Never again.  I’m a diagnosed schizophrenic and can tell you this from first hand experience; the medical system can be downright abusive to the mentally ill, and a big part of that is forced medication compliance.

All the best to you dude, that's heavy shit. And yeah, the drugs they give are heavy too. A very dear friend just lost her schizophrenic brother after a number of years of hit or miss medication. Again, all the best to you.

Mateja, that's heavy stuff. It's good to hear you are doing much better. Thank you for sharing.

Organized religion isn't for me. I grew up going to church with my Dad. We bounced around before we found one that he liked. I have been to other churches since. Before I met the lady I have been with for the last 10+ years, I was much more spiritual. She doesn't believe any of that so it has slowly faded from my consciousness over the years. I'll admit it has an effect on me. Also, I don't have friends that believe there is something more to our reality. Well, I don't have close friends. I have work friends.

I hope that I will find a group of intelligent, creative, and spiritual people to hang with again someday. I had that once upon a time. Those were some of the best years of my life.

Confession - I may never again eat a regular ham sando after last night. I finally got all the stuff to make a jambon beurre. Kinda.

Went to the store and procured some euro-style cultured butter, some basic bitch deli ham (where am I gonna find unsmoked, wine-cured Parisian ham around here?), and a baguette. Super easy - spread soft butter on baguette, add ham, make into sando. What was to follow was hard to believe... The very first bite made me cackle like a madman, like a villain whose evil plan had finally come together like Voltron... Seriously, I don't know what to do with myself today. Obviously I can't eat these every day, or even every week (I'm fat enough already), but this is a game changer. My only addition was a sprinkle of some smoked goat cheese crumbles, highly recommended if you can find them. These were grocery store brand. Regular goat cheese would also be dope af. Serve with some french wine (like an affordable cotes du Rhone blend) and some potato chips, just to fly in the face of frenchy fancy.

I can't even look a regular sando in the eyes rt now. Ham+cheese+mustard has been by my side for over 50 years, and the foundation of that relationship has been shook. Shookened. IDK, go make a good ham and butter sando and get back to me.

Confession 2 - overly excited about making Canadian bacon for this weekend, I'm sarting the brine tonight. Also have a giant mahi fillet to smoke and serve w/ cheesy garlic grits. Gonna eat good this weekend, there should be some homemade english muffins in there as well, because brunch kinda means bennys to me.

I’m sorry for the unsolicited advice. Finding a therapist is like picking a pair of shoes to run a marathon. You will not run a marathon without trying on shoes. Therapist all (should) be willing to do at least 15 minute consultations. Schedule consultations with a few therapists and make sure you feel super comfortable and vibe with them. Client therapist relationship is the most important piece of the therapy puzzle. If you start seeing someone and you aren’t liking it or they are not working on goals that YOU chose you can always tell them you want to find someone else and they will give you referrals. No competent therapist will be offended if you want to switch to someone else. Don’t give up if the first one doesn’t work out!! There are SO many modalities and theories that therapists pull from, find one that practices in a way that makes sense to you, works on what YOU want to work on and that you vibe with. Sorry about the rant but I am so so happy for you and want you to find someone that makes you look forward to therapy.

Klarn, all of this sounds delicious! So simple, that ham sandy. I really enjoy a simple meal where the quality of ingredients does the work.

Joe, thank you for the advice. I'm starting with messenger based therapy. Like a text chat. I'm not quite ready to face another person.

Who has the money for shopping around for a therapist these days? They charge like a car mechanic. It's $150 just to walk into the office.

I agree. I went to jail and lived on street until the state forced me into therapy (and many many inpatient and outpatient programs), but they paid for it. Then when I finally make it out of the Justice system, I had a couple student therapist from University of Phoenix, they did free therapy for more than just students not sure if they do still. But had to definitely tell a few therapist we weren’t vibing and I wanted a new one. Worked with free therapy with them but your experience may vary. Now I live somewhere that has healthcare and totally get that not everyone has access to these resources. But also on off chance someone reading this is in that position, I would be more than happy to help find resources in a general area if you are in need. I’m really not a therapist, I can practice therapy, but I own own a business that very simplified provides resource brokering and referral services for people who do not have the resources for mental health and medical care.
