After GT and Ochras cultivation I will try PE - advises..?

Hey..

Since August 2025 I cultivated GT in shoeboxes and with water tube tek with great sucess; now I have Ochras with same process..and go in good way to.

I use brown rice, inoculated in jars with agars, and I do the S2B in shoeboxes, and to frutification I put in a biger box with water on bottom and have very nice results!

I only use cococoir as substrate to do S2B.

Now I have 500 grs of brownrice inoculated at 100% with Penis Envy - I inoculate at begining of July with agar.

What special precautions should I take to grow PE, and what I need do diferent from cultivation of GT/Ochras?

The only special precaution to take that I'm aware of is making sure the food is completely colonized. Other than that, proceed as normal. :dancingshroom:

And the question of casing layer? To prevent bulbs..?

How much thickness of casing layer its ideal (cms)?

The same as you would do for golden teachers, about 1.5 - 2 cm, loose not packed

Everyone does it a little differently. Iโ€™ve run PE-based genetics without a casing and it did fine. Iโ€™ve run other cubes pseudo-cased and they ran fine too. I think genetics have some to do with blobbing as much as anything, but thatโ€™s just my experience.

If you like the advice in that thread, go with it. Experiment and find what works best for you.

Penis Envy: inoculated in brown rice at 01/07...at 22/07 found it totally wite; I do break and shake to confirm...now after 5 days are in this way. Better wait  4/5 days more before send it to substrate?? thanks..๐Ÿค˜

IME blobs are only a real issue with SporeWorks Penis Envy (SWPE) and there are a few ways to lower their frequency. First thing I noticed is that they tend to not blob when the colony is not broken. Things like cakes, cased grain methods, invitro pins usually maintain the fruit shape and avoid blobs. So no spawning unfortunately.

If you like to grow SWPE in bulk you can case it with a peat casing. Pseudo casing won't do the same thing.

The final way is to isolate non blob genetics. They do exist and are worth the effort usually.

I'm in the same boat, first PE, got about 6 god size mushrooms and a bunch of blobs on the first flush. Cake is drying and pulling from the sides, and using Pasty's ez dial. Thoughts for the next step? Do I dunk it? If so, how long? Or do I spray it down heavy?

I have two jars of PE in almost the same condition as mobyhat, on brown rice. My cows used to grow them for me but we shifted, anyway I always wanted to grow some. Stupidly, I lost a bunch of spore prints on foil in the move.

After several recent newbie failures I'm keen to get fruit for spore print and tissue clone. Is casing invitro the lowest risk past for me?

Any assistance appreciated.

15 days after S2B I have my monotube/shoebox in this..think its go good.

I compress a litle and put a top casing layer of 2 cms only with coco coir.

Go nice this?

Itโ€™s actually an old ohmatic style mini monotub that I taped up most of the holes. Super low tech.
