Thanks for the info. I am beginning to wonder if the rumours are not correct, and that Natalensis is really just an example of an existing shroom that was somehow transported to that farm by trekking Boers or something... It seems odd that no other examples can be found, but I suppose that is how it goes in the land of mycology.
Did you or your friend uncover any other interesting species in South Africa's recent shroom season? How about further afield, in Zimbabwe or Mozambique..?

I know he found some shrooms, not sure what though. The rainy season is about to start where I live. I do plan to go shroom stalking, but don't know too much about it. I have Psilocyben Mushrooms of the World, so maybe that would help. I wish I knew some shroomers here that could help me out.
Peace

I'll be sure to do that. Do any of you know which Psilocybes have been found in the Western Cape region of South Africa. As winter is on its way, I can only assume that they are cold loving species.
Peace,

When you say the Western Cape, I am assuming you mean around Cape Town? If so, I have found two species (I will have to check my notes) which are relatively common. Obviously, the further north and west you go, the less likely you are to find good stuff. Kwa-Zulu Natal has some interesting species; also very large concentrations of flushes. If worse comes to worse, you can simply stop into Durban and buy some shrooms from one of the ten thousand dealers there..! :-)
I will get back with you on more South African shroom information. There is a good book that talks about shrooms of SA; mainly culinary shrooms, poisonous shrooms, etc. I think it was written in Afrikaans and translated into English, so not terribly exciting.

Yeah, I live in CT. I would appreciate the name of that book ;) if you can find it. I saw a South African book in a little book shop. It had one Psilocybe mentioned in it, and said it was poisonous. So I ended up not buying the thing.

Whoops! Forgot about this thread. I will check my library when I get home from work.
