The Citta (And the Wrong Teachings)
    #29617975 -

"Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth."
— Shakyamuni Buddha

Talking to devas about basic mind discernment, a little.

In order to understand what the right teachings are, it helps to get
what's wrong. Discerning consciousness is a bit tricky, since we
are usually more concerned with matter, than with mind. It's up to you to
discern (and gain an understanding of) consciousness.

"Citta" translates as "Heart of Mind". It is the center of consciousness.
It is a kind of mask. For example, when you are an elf (a spirit of
nature), your citta contains having pointed ears.

Try to look at your citta now, in this very moment, it is there: The
most important part of your consciousness.

There are good cittas, evil cittas, and neutral cittas. There is a movement
of mind which is called uplifting your citta. Doing that feels very much like
increasing the height of your citta. Uplifting your citta increases your
confidence.

There was the teaching that one does not uplift, except for meditating. The
Buddha who teaches that was feeling embarrassed by people uplifting on bullshit.
The problem is that uplifting your citta is a very natural thing to do, and not
being allowed to do so creates hell everywhere.

One of the earliest wrong teachings was that the citta is the Self. For,
in ultimate reality, there is no such thing. Everything in your consciousness
(or outside, for that matter), is an object. Nowhere in the universe
can a subject be found.

There is a mind liberation, which is called "Citta Freedom". It means
you can take on arbitrary cittas, not just one. Movie actors sometimes have
high citta freedom. There was a wrong teaching that one gains the citta
freedom by smashing your citta. The problem is that this feels completely
and utterly unwholesome. Being forced to destroy one's citta creates
pointless suffering. It doesn't even give you citta freedom. The Bodhisattva
who did this just became a minor Buddha.

Crucial for a powerful consciousness is a highly uplifted citta, not the
absence of one.

"Referring to various Dhammapada passages, we come to understand that citta
is stuck, grasped, bound up. But it can be released with wisdom."
- Ajahn Sucitto

Have fun with your mind.

citta means mind moment
In Buddhism, citta translates to "mind," "heart," or "heart-mind". It is the subjective core of consciousness that experiences emotions, directs intentions, and undergoes the cycle of rebirth. Unlike the intellectual mind (manas), citta represents the totality of your mental and emotional state, and is the primary focus of Buddhist meditation.

My Tibetan Buddhist teacher illustrated consciousness as a series of citta (mind moments) arising and passing away.

A good way of feeling your way about this idea, is the Gestalt approach, basically all that can be sensed and thought this moment together as one experience, and knowing that it continues in a series while conscious awake or dreaming.

because they are all encompassing and brief, the idea of death and reincarnation can map onto the stream of consciousness with a continuum of mind moments dying and being reborn into the next mind moment.

I agree with that.

My citta is the neutral kind. If I uplift it, will it be of even greater neutrality?

they are always of the same size, which technically is, as big as the mind can possibly be, mental contents (characterizing each individual citta), however, vary continuously.
uplifting is mental content as well, even if you bend your knees to push; your knees are mental content as well.
whatever you are aware of is mental content - i.e. citta.

Perhaps down-lifting will create the necessary neutralizing force via paradox power

`O ye many Cittazens of the Shroomery...together-alone; onwards we float, like a dream, indeed, but not exactly as a dream-dream, either.  Not that any of that causes these dreamy cittas dreaming awake - any less awake, or any less dreamy, nor any less chit chaty.

Enlightenment at matter is the uplift singularity. It means you remember all
your past lives. You uplift your citta a little prior to enlightenment, and
it doubles the height of the uplift after enlightenment. That is the Buddha's
power.

oh oh, another mathematical maven of religious lore.

what if all your past lifetimes, just means all your citta moments in this life time.

this would allow that Buddha was a bit of a tricky guy, avoiding the ire of the wider populous that has Hindu and other beliefs in transmigration after death & rebirth, while privately instructing acolytes about citta - mind moments - that arise and pass away by the second.

the esoteric knowledge is not about an afterlife with deities, but about mind and the moment in which we live. He continues to use lifetimes as a metaphor for both citta, and for the existing cultish concepts embedded in society.

I see that many religions wrap around historical superstitions, while embedded in the hierarchical infrastructure of the religious order, are some teachers whose enlightenment transcends religion altogether. To advance one must not simply renounce the trappings of family and society, but one must also renounce the preconceptions about religion.

I think that meditation can make you more enlightened

--

Maybe not so much initially

But maybe after 12 - 15 years (3000 hours or so?)

It can do it quite a lot i think

There might be no limit to it

for most people that is too many minutes, but hey, practice awareness all the time might be a good prescription - beginner's mind is where it's at.

Beginners mind in my opinion is to be with this new moment, this new instant. This frame of perception knowledge..

The fact that this moment right now is a holy instant.

So therefore we are all beginners on the road to salvation.

The road to perdition is often less traveled, but one can learn from that as well.

This instant is the first time that we are here to experience..

Each instant is BRAND NEW!!

I think ive noticed this not once, you mentioning time duration importance in meditation practice. So, its usually said much more about quality than quantity, but idk much about that.

Most cittas at matter are neutral.

Consciousness, however, is good versus evil.
