Here's a question, must good thoughts have a polarity? It's not enjoyment on trial, but dukkha.

And it cannot be said that silence is not most enjoyable.

That which serves the Bodhisattva is active and manifest, and is not conducive to dukkha. What about the spoken word in that video? If it is empty, what is the purpose? To say that it is empty. So empty and having meaning do not necessarily negate each other. Why is it meaningful? Because it's bliss, or absence of dukkha.

excuse me for commenting on a "spiritual" topic, since I have for at least 6 years lost patience for fuzzy dogma, in favor of clarity in regards to mental contents which includes thoughts.

I have to admit that much of Buddhist mind lore (eg. abhidhamma sangaha) attempts to accurately portray the "true nature" of the stream of consciousness, and how attachments in that stream lead to suffering (essentially snagging or clinging).

In Buddhism the smallest unit of consciousness is citta, and the stream of consciousness is portrayed as one citta followed by the next.

Each citta is composite, inclusive of all mental contents that occur at the same moment.
the nature of each mental content is either a reflection of contact or sensation (eye ear etc) or the reflexive reflection of associated memory to the other mental contents in that moment (including attraction, repulsion, actual movement, word thought, actual speech, past feelings etc.).

Citta is a fleeting concept, the array of all mental contents that only lasts one particular moment - chained into a sequence: one citta followed by the next and the next (until death or dreamless sleep ends the series - here Buddhism is vague since there are books about the bardos (after physical death???) while also the transition from each citta to the next is also a rebirth - and the focus in Buddhism is to make those rebirths more fortunate or to pause relentlessly painful rebirth (in nirvana, or through enlightenment) and find lasting peace for the mind).

Technically any fragment of mental content is neural activation - a localized energy event lasting between 1/6th of a second up to 3 seconds at the longest most extreme emotional trance.
The same activation occurs during sensation as during thought or perceptive recall of the original sensation. It is just a fleeting localized burst of energy. Each citta has thousands of these activations generating mental content on the mind screen.

Since the mental content may equally relate to live sensation as it does to content that is remembered or imagined or hallucinated or dreamed we can call it "empty" or equal to unreality.

More to the point in Buddhism, "who is watching the mind screen?", and this leads to understanding that the nature of perception in mind is reflexive, that the patterns on the mind screen (empty as they may be construed or not) elicit the activation of subsequent associated patterns inherently and reflexively. No self is watching the mind screen, but the activations there cause subsequent activations. The mind/brain has evolved to empower life with familiarity. The mind+body unit reacts reflexively to familiar contexts, and can discern very small differences when needed.

I have been fascinated by how one pattern experienced evokes another associated pattern from memory, and how each moment of mental content forms associative memory.

It is not really true that the nature of thought is emptiness, but it is true that it feels that way when observed (eg. in meditation - which is actually a form of thought), even though each thought or experience are equally made of insubstantial tiny temporary flashes of energy locations.

Those flashes by virtue of impermanence and insignificant size verge upon emptiness. Yet the true nature of the screen upon which they play (the cerebral cortex) is empty of a separate observer; for the flashes keep on playing with nobody watching - reflexes to contextual conditions all being rendered as sensory flashes in the same 2.5 square foot screen which is the size of the cerebral cortex when unfolded and spread out flat.

At the end of the day, they’re all just practices. In a way, they’re both useful and useless at the same time. Eventually, practices, videos, and lectures are just that. There are thousands of different methods for bringing the mind back to the Self, and none of them are wrong.

I’m definitely not some realized being or anything like that. I just enjoy hearing different perspectives from all over the place. From spiritual perspectives to scientific observations. I don’t always think that deeply about it and other times i do. Sometimes I just end up laughing when it hits me again that we’re already that which is, and there’s really nothing to discover.
