What strain should I try next?
    #29612302 -

The stench and taste of my freshly picked golden teachers nearly made me gag (healthy fruits btw they looked and smelled nice in the tub but after picking got a sharp pinching smell that reminded me of nausea. So far ive only tried b+ and I think it was wild bag azurescens (wild picked bag from Oregon pickers given as a gift idk the variety..dried they looked oddly similar to cubensis in shape and size so I assume it’s this) which I had great experiences with minidosing maybe every other day for some months which rid me of my anxiety and frustrations for what felt like awhile after and helped me release a lot of heavy emotions and connect back with my intuition/deep empathy/psychic gifts as well. I feel lately ive become very jaded, complainy, uncomfortably irritable- natural results of domestication maybe…but I’d like to release my mind and be happy with mini dosing again.

I want an uplifting sort of euphoric effect but can bring on deep meaningful work too if you are one to believe in each variety having a different essence like I do..I really liked the increased psychic effects of my previous minidosing.

I’d like a nice smell while processing and taste non nauseating though I do often use capsules. I’d like to try chocolates and other recipes in future.

Visually appealing. Not too mutant looking, healthy and happy creatures who enjoys colony growing and can produce their own viable spores with a vigor for life..may seem woo woo but I believe in the spirit of the fungi and I believe naturally vital species help more with out our healing that deformed blobs that seem to be saying please just kill me.

Thinking pan cyans? Snapes look cool but that one may be too prone to deformities so maybe one who is closer to wild genes…I love deeply or fun colored and wavy cap varieties but most important is effects ofc. I want illuminated lightness of being. I live and grow in Oregon btw.

Schlorotia producers might be what he after. Stones from atl7 are fairly potent I've heard n less time sensitive grows as u can leave ur grain jars for long time. Millet or wild grass seeds is commonly used for spawn n to grow stones in as. Schlorotia builds inside the grains so don't choose a substrate ur not willing to eat (like hpoo or cpoo) they supposedly store fairly well in the fridge u might need a grinder or something to break them down as they are dense n practically unchewable + stones are good for micro dosing and if u rlly want to trip the fruits /actual mushrooms from schlerotia producers are constantly 2 to 3x cubensis strength.

Edit. Forgot to say the main reason why Id think u should choose stone producers.  The stones themselves are zesty and taste decent  just don't go forgetting that brownie doesn't have nuts but mushrooms if u decide to store it for later lolol

How are your cult skills?  If you are proficient with agar already, exotics should be an easy next step.  You’d basically just have to learn pasteurization and environmental control for the species you choose to work with.

Pan cyans would be a good place to start and are quick and pretty easy, subtropicalis and zapotecorum are usually a bit slower but might be worth looking into eventually.  I’ve heard good things about pan bisporus as well.

Also, have you tried making tea? That’s how I consume mine most of the time.  I use a strong loose leaf tea mix (ginger/turmeric/orange peel/lemongrass blends are my favorite) and the flavor is pretty good.

0 cult skills lol…I have agar plates scalpels etc coming Monday so trying some cloning that day. Yes I think pan cyan are what I’m being called to right now so thanks for the confirmation.

I tried tea awhile back, I remember liking it but going to pills just for the efficiency. Lemongrass flavor and smell is amazing, I’ll have to try that brew!

Yeah, if you want something to be relatively easy to grow, but clear and therapeutic, Subtropicalis/Semperviva is in my opinion the next step. It will require agar work and casing, but otherwise just like cubes.

Think about it and just let me know if you need a print :awesomenod:

In my experience Stone producers are a bit more forgiving than some Pan Cyan's and Panaeolus in general.
Plus them stones are cool to look at, smell & taste different,
and the experience can be pretty awesome! They might not bruise blue so easily all the time though.

Ya just gotta love that acidic "lemon" like taste/sensation huh? 🍋

Not necessarily true, because there are some minor alkaloids, such as baeocystin, norbaeocystin and aeruginascin.

I know semilanceata has higher levels of baeocystin. There's some found in wavy caps too. I'm not sure if any of the common cultivated varieties contain notable amounts of these other alkaloids. Maybe natalensis, since people report that it feels different to them.

I sometimes wonder if we will see more significant ratios of these minor alkaloids in the future, similar to how cannabis used to be all THC, but you can now get CBD/CBG/CBDV/CBGV/THCV/CBC strains.

All the Psilocybes produce exactly the same minor alkaloids because they're all steps in the enzymatic synthesis of psilocybin.

The reason they don't all show up in HPLC testing results is they're much less stable than psilocybin and degrade easily during the drying process especially at elevated temperatures. So the presence of baeocystin in some species like P semilanceata is likely due to their small size and the fact that they dry really quickly rather than baeocystin production being a species specific trait.

If you want to experience the effects of all the minor alkaloids you need to eat the fruits fresh so they haven't degraded.

That may be true though some produce them in higher concentration

This is interesting and sounds plausible, but don't the psilocin/psilocybin ratio of fresh fruits vary? Might genetic factors influence this?

If one species had a higher number of enzymes, this would result in a higher amount of conversion from the minor alkaloids to psilocybin. Psilocin vs psilocybin ratio in particular would be important for those who want to eat fresh mushrooms.

It used to be thought that psilocin was a step in the synthesis of psilocybin and psilocin accumulated in the fruits but we now know that any psilocin detected in HPLC results is caused by psilocybin dephosphorylating into psilocin.

Fresh undamaged fruits that are actively growing aren't thought to contain any psilocin at all as it's only produced when the fruits are damaged, so harvesting, rough handling, elevated temperature drying, age and storage conditions of sample and sample processing are responsible for any psilocin that shows up in the HPLC test results.

This means that we can modify the psilocybin/psilocin ratio in any fruits we ingest by things like chewing well with fresh fruits or heating acidified teas and extractions for longer periods of time to dephosphorylate more psilocybin into psilocin. There's research that found that gentle heating of acidified water extractions for up an hour converted most of the psilocybin content into psilocin.

Well that's interesting, thanks for sharing. It would explain why the mazatec chew mushrooms for over 30 minutes.

I was thinking of the Mazatec when I posted. I think prolonged chewing and quidding works because your mouth is a low oxygen environment so psilocybin converts into psilocin but the psilocin can't degrade into non active substances because that reaction needs oxygen. So most of the dose is absorbed as psilocin through the mucous membranes of the mouth rather than from the dephosphorylation of psilocybin in the digestive tract.

Funny enough, dried mushrooms test higher in the minor alkaloids than fresh does; fresh just has higher amounts of unconjugated psilocin. None of them aside from psilocin are active though.

Saliva contains alkaline phosphatase enzymes which is the same enzyme responsible for the conversion of psilocybin into psilocin in your intestines. Sublingual and buccal absorption are also far more efficient than oral absorption which is only around 50%

Acidic extracts do the same thing. Although the original study from 1985 used heat, subsequent studies have shown that heat isn’t really necessary as it’s an enzymatic reaction.
