Ok, I got a couple of probably a bit stupid questions about lions mane.

1. If I'm going to make my own LM tincture, I should make a double extraction to get all the good stuff, right? So I'll boil some dried fruit and make an alcohol extraction from that, if I've read it right.

2. I should be using fruitbodies AND mycelium to get all the good stuff, right? Fruitbodies I can do by how the hell I'm going to get mycelium? I mean just mycelium. If it's spawn I got grains there. If it's on agar, I got agar there. If it's a substrate I got the sub there. How I'm going to do this actually?

3. I fruited a bunch of LM with too low FAE and I got a big amount of these sponge-like marshmellowy balls. Is this the mycelium that I should do extract with? This the only way I can think of getting just mycelium without anything else along it. Or are these considered fruitbodies? They smell different than the actual nice fruits with teeth, the texture is different and they don't develop teeth so I think maybe it's mycelium.

Dunno if any of this makes sense.

Probably would have to do microscopy or chemical analysis to determine if they're fruits or mycelium but most likely fruiting bodies.

What the big wigs report to do is colonize millet for so long that there's no millet left, only mycelium.

Double extract is going to gather more things than just boiling but will also act as a preservative so the concoction is shelf stable.

Right. Interesting, I wonder what the colonization time for that would be. Wasn't it the mycelium and not the fruitbodies that contains the best stuff? The stuff that helps with memory and other cognitive functions, can't remember what is was lol

Sorry if this is a dumb question but do my substrate bags need to have fae during colonisation? Having a go at lionsmane but can't seem to find the answer anywhere.

Edit: that was a dumb question. Should've read the thread better and looked at the pictures.

Just thinking out loud without knowing the answer, but I feel like it would make sense to liquid culture if you just wanted to extract myc. Let it get extra chunky, filter out the solids, then either blend it up and start extracting or dry it up and grind it.

No idea about how the difference in compounds is between fruiting body and myc. I have noticeable improvements in concentration and brain fogginess using 3  mL/day of my fruiting body double extract. 60g bone dry fruit blended fine, 200 mL high proof grain alcohol, 2 weeks with daily shaking, filter, simmer solids for 4 hours with enough water for the final extract to be 30% alc.

I have 4 bags of Lions Mane fruiting at the moment. First just had the first fruit open air but realised i need more humidity and built a little fruiting chamber with water in the bottom and an aquarium heater set to 23°C. The lid has some little holes drilled in it. Seems to be doing a lot better now with around 22°C and 90% humidity

Only problem is that im leaving for 10 days tomorrow. Should i harvest the bigger fruits to be sure or can i just leave them be for 10 days? Worst case they turn a little yellow from dropping spores right?

10 days is a while. Harvesting anything close to ready sounds good to me if you have anything at all to use or preserve them.

What temperature would they be at without the heater? They should be alright being a little chilly but that will slow them down. That would help regardless of what else you do.

Anyone out there with cultures or spores of Hericium, other than Erinceum?

Not really but I suppose it is possible. The ideal method has very little substrate exposed during fruiting, only a small cut in a bag or small opening for the fruits to emerge from. I have top fruited lm in a bag and that's similar to a shoebox but the bag remains closed so the substrate doesn't dry out

I have done muda bottles in tubs, but they really want more air than a tub can provide.



Sometimes they even try to escape to find more air.

First time growing. I'm so happy! It's growing! I currently have four bags in my grow box. Let's see how quickly it grows now. When is the right time to harvest? I read that it's when the teeth are about 1 cm long. Is that correct?

Visually when you look at the mushroom the teeth should be about 1/8th inch or 3mm. Can go a bit longer but I think 8mm would be my maximum tooth length.

I need help.

My Lion's Mane is forming these droplets on the surface.




On the same block, one mushroom has these droplets while the other doesn't. There are four blocks in the box; none of the others are showing this phenomenon.

CO2 is at 500–1000 ppm.
Temperature is 18°C–19°C.
Humidity is 92%–94%.

No, nothing came into contact with bleach.

I found the term guttation online. It’s described as a kind of sweating. Supposedly, it’s nothing to worry about. Has anyone ever experienced this before?

Yeah I've seen guttation but never on lions mane, the worst thing is wet blob which guttates but doesn't really look like what you've got. On the off chance it is wet blob I would get it far away from any cultivation projects. On the other hand it's really interesting and would be cool to watch and document it's progression...
