Outdoor breeding?

I have not tried breeding yet but I think I get it. Dilute to try and isolate a monokaryon. Then introduce them to each other. Maybe using a wood tea agar to stress them and encourage mating. Or stress with temperature fluctuations maybe. Once the mycelium begins to grow more vigorously and I can observe clamp connections I have a mate and I can grow it. But is there a way to make the resulting pair more likely to be stable and to fruit? If I raise the parents in close proximity and acclimatize them to Long Island will that have any impact?
I’m still just learning and getting started with cubes, but I’m definitely going to be doing this for the rest of my life. If anyone has some information on these or other wood lovers. I’m really more interested in wood lovers and the challenges of the north east. But I have not started yet so I’m unaware of what those challenges will be. I am interested in learning more about tetrapolar mating while I’m working with these varieties

Every mono culture has a mating type, when two compatible mono cultures touch plasmogamy occurs :wink:. Puts things into dikaryotic mode, isolate that in which differs from your mono culture growth. Have fun.

Yes.  They will lay epigenetic markers and the offspring inherits a lot of them.

What general species are you interested in breeding?  I didn’t understand the use of wood tea agar as a stress method.  Or what purpose/goal it has in this?

Is it a non-WL?  If a WL, using a tea from the wood sub you use can familiarize the myc’s digestive processes so that when you jump from agar to spawn or spawn to sub it knows it’s dietary sources that much faster. 

Sounds like you’re aiming to naturalize it to your environment.  Is it already an outdoor culture, and you just want to select the next generation for them which have adapted to your local conditions?
