Here's a reinactment of this incident from the show Drunk History by Bob Odenkirk and Jack Black!

After doing some more research on the Elvis/DEA thing, I've come across sites that claim that Elvis was more than just an "honorary" drug cop.  Among their evidence are pictures of him in the late 70's wearing a "DEA Staff" tracksuit.  But the most compelling evidence is a letter from the ATF stating that Elvis had allowed one of their undercover narcotics agents to tour with him under the guise of a musician in a band that Presley traveled with, which allowed the ATF to "develop a number of quality investigations".

The most interesting part of this letter is the end where it says "Mr. Presley's visit to the White House in 1970 was not related to his assistance with this bureau.  Although I am not sure, I believe President Nixon recognized Mr. Presley's contribution and assistance to the drug enforcement agency."  Click here.

If this is true, and Nixon recognized Elvis' assistance to the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs/DEA in 1970, then that means that Presley had been working with the DEA before that time.  So perhaps giving the badge to Elvis was something of a reward.  Very interesting.

What he wanted to be, as I understand it is, "a federal agent at large."

Btw been meaning to share Matt Berry for a little while.  The first one was

This (second one) deserves its own thread but yeah.

This one's unrelated, all about censorship.
