Shoot I think the instapot only does about 10PSI on high setting. I thought it might be good because I don't have to watch it. Im not sure how I used so much water and it almost ran out but I think I can get away with the instapot method I know lots of people have used them with success.

Instapots work more than fine. They get up to 12psi.

Of all my failures, it has not been from the instapot.  And the one I use, the silicone mats for my jars have them sit in water

Just run it for 185 minutes

Make sure you do the 10 minute bleed before you close the valve.

:flyby: I heard about people using steam baths with some degree of success. It seems so much more easy just load press cook and collect in the morning. I will do the 185 minutes.

It honestly for me is as well.

I put em on right before bed (make sure you hit manual twice to turn off keep warm function) and sleep for 8 hours and just take the lid off when I wake up.

If your grain prep is done right it’s fine. The only semi issues I had was not allowing the rye to fully dry and would get a random couple burst grains.

Now that I lay them flat and go two hours before putting them in the jars, no burst grains.

Hell, have had jars sit for a month, inoculated with cultures I know were super clean, and they grew out.

My problem has always been substrate prep, and I think I finally resolved that

I'm trying this for the first time too.  I got tired of burying hundreds and hundreds of perfectly good apples every year.  (I have a single, very enthusiastic tree.)

I have a bucket with an airlock.  It does build up pressure in there, and if I gently push down on it I can make the airlock bubble, but I've never seen any evidence of the fermentation itself making anything happen with the airlock.

I've been avoiding peeking, but after ~6 weeks maybe it's time?

I bet that either the lid is not completely snapped in place or it has a leak.

Tastes ... ok.  Not sweet anymore (the juice was very sweet) and tastes kind of alcoholic, but also watery.  There's a pasty whitish film on the surface I'm not sure whether I should worry about.

Suppose I should do something like rack it this weekend and see how it goes from there.

Take a picture, also, did you pasteurize the must and add your own yeast?

I didn't boil or pasteurize; the 2 guides I was following didn't mention doing that, unless I missed something.  I added some cider yeast and a relatively small dose of nutes.  It all frothed up rather nicely at the beginning.

Unfortunately my supporter status lapsed years ago, and I'm way over my picture limit.  I'll have to pay up again  since I don't want to delete all the pics of my old grows and whatnot.

Got it, wild fermenting is not uncommon with ciders, so it's probably fine since you added yeast. The film could be Lactobacillus, which will help make it sour :awesomenod:

I would check the gravity with a hydrometer, if it's below 1.000 you can either bottle it with some sugar to carbonate, or rack it off the yeast cake to clear up before botteling if you don't want carbonation.

For mushrooms thats not a great idea, but fermentation you'll want to burp like once a day

What PSI are you running? 4 quarts had maybe 200ml left after 1 hour 20 minutes going in between 15-16 PSI in a 24 quart pressure cooker for me.

17 psi in my Presto, 15 psi in my T-Fal. If you’re using that much water during your PC run you’re running it a little hot. You don’t want a loud, spitting, hissing, rocking weight or relief valve. Dial back the heat just a little bit and maintain pressure without losing all that steam.

I don't know we've all been over this in regards to my pc.

I'm running between 16 and 17 PSI 3 quarts at 2 hours and 30 minutes. one time I almost ran dry.

I cleaned it and checked everything and changed how the level of heat

Then  I put some vegetable oil on my gasket. And after that.

I'm not losing as much. I can comfortably do a two to two and a half hour run without having to worry.

But I probably left with only a quart or so which means I really couldn't go any longer.

The Presto's pretty much brand new. I mean it did this when it was brand new. Now it's almost 2 years old.

I run it on my gas flame Stove Top and it is on as low as the flame can possibly go.

Also three quarters taped to the Jiggler so it's very quiet barely hissing or anything.

All the venting(10min) and heating process is done on medium heat and then takin down to low once it's come up to pressure. all the water is put in cold.

I have done the full routine for checking for leaks and everything.

I haven't actually measured how much water is left over when I'm done but if looks like I'm losing half if not more.

Ps.  This was just to give some detail to the people that responded.

So  don't worry about giving me the run-through of advice and what to look for and what I should or should try to change it.

As said when I started this post. I've already been through it with everybody here a few months back. and I don't want to take up the threads space again LOL

I've actually got a PC run I need to do in the next day or two so I'll actually measure what I'm left with.
