I wish there was a "ask quick questions,get quick answers" thread here in the gourmet. So much easier just firing off a quick question rather than writing up a whole post. I imagine a lot of actives growers make their way to the gourmet side of things eventually.

Can anybody recommend a good tek or guide for growing button mushrooms? I've got a clean LC I've tested on agar and am going to inoculate 7 myco quarts.

I was thinking of spawning them like I do cubes using straw and coir.

I had read doing a casing at full colonization, and dropping the temperatures to induce fruiting is common practice. I hope to have some success this way, but would love to hear from somebody with some experience on the subject.

I know .. they cost nothing at the store, I could just buy them. But fuck it I like button mushrooms and want to grow my own :bump2:.

Lets just keep it going here I guess.

Can I put any agar wedge to grains like actives or do I always have to make an LC first? Youtube videos seem to always go to LC before introducing to grain for some reason.

thank you sir. Saved me from doing extra work. Now second question, how much of one agar plate are you putting to lets say a quart mason jar of grain? I'll be using grow bags because all my jars are currently in use at the moment.

For a jar I'm using about 1/4 plate , but I'm also using bags and just tossing half to a full plate then smashing it up 😁

I've actually been putting a whole plate to a jar. Is putting too much bad somehow? I know putting too much LC in a jar is bad because of the extra moisture but agar doesn't really have moisture like that right?

In my experience, 2 ~ 1cm2 sections of agar in 1 quart grain spawn jars provide colonization speed comparable to LC.  All it takes is a tiny fragment, just a matter of how long you're willing to wait.  I did an entire XLSA bag once with some tiny agar wedges, it just took 3 or 4 times longer than it would have otherwise.

Compared to agar, LC is just incredibly convenient for high volume.

What do you guys do with you're medicinal mushrooms? Capsules, tincture, just dried for teas? I'm not a huge tea drinker, i'd rather just get the benefits as painless as possible.

Got some Reishi and Lions mane about to send to spawn soon. Had cordyceps going great until the ole green bastard showed up spoiling my party. Seem to be getting a lot of that these days and I have no idea why...

First time gourmet grower here (Pioppinios).  Do I soak the wood pellet block after harvest or stick with misting to get another flush?

I've not head great success (yield) with second flushes from pioppinos, but consider that I've done nothing more than keep them around until they fruit again.  I've Never tried soaking or misting.  Literature suggests 2 flushes is commercially viable.

Seems like it could only help as long as it doesn't induce any contamination.
