Fogger water reservoir cleaning

Hi.

Currently I clean my ultrasonic fogger water reservoirs once every week with vinegar. I'd like to try and see if I can double the time and clean them only every other week. It takes an full hour to disassemble, clean, assemble and fill them with the ducts and all, and I really need to start shaving hours off. Am I asking for trouble? How often you guys clean those tubs?

If I were to clean only every two weeks, I probably should drop a bit of something to help keep them clean after a week. But which is better, vinegar or h2o2? And how much / what solution?

I clean mine every couple of months, using a bleach and water mixture. Doesnt take much Clorox in a gallon of water.
And I replace the flexible ducts from time to time too. Are you finding algae growth? maybe there's too much light hitting the tub?

I've let mine go for months before...  I was in a similar boat where the time investment was a major deterrent.  I have a solution now that really cuts down the time it takes.  Humidifier sump is a rectangular storage tote on the bottom shelf inside my tent fitted with a float valve hooked to water supply.  I installed a drain valve on it and once every week or two I drag the garden hose to my tent slide the bottom away from the lid open the valve and drain it and spray it out REALLY good.  Seems plenty adequate to keeps thing fresh and only takes 5-10 minutes.

Months, wow. I suppose its hella slimy after so long?? Haven't you guys (dad and father :laugh:) had any bacterial problems or similar with that rare cleaning? If I skip just one week I notice all the interior surfaces of the tote and the fogger itself feels a bit slimy to touch. My totes are black so there's only a bit of ambient light entering from the piece of duct with the fan on top.

Also I've read that bleach will damage the fogger in long term but I've also read people using it for long periods of time without issues. Maybe it's a matter of solution strength.

Hmm the rinse with the drain valve would be something to consider. Though I think it won't actually save that much time with my setup (of three reservoirs and no access to water inline).

But if you have went months before cleaning, I suppose I could easily do it every other week. Maybe it's just for a peace of mind but I think I'd drop a little vinegar, h2o2 or bleach after week. Still not sure though which is the best.

Incredibly slimy!  Like jelly...  Never had any problems that I attributed to it though.  I didn't like that it got that way and wished I had done a better job cleaning it, but those days are behind me now :grin:

Gosh, no slime whatsoever. Never has. I like to think the tiny amount of chlorine they add to the public water supply helps, but maybe its my set up?
I have a 4" inline fan that pushes air into the tub, past the fogger then into the martha tent. The fan sits on top of the tent in the hopes there's less dog hair up there, and attached to the fan is a 4" air filter thats wrapped with a white "Merv 13 Filter Material, Filters Dust Small as 0.3 Microns."
The fogger is controlled with an Inkbird IHC200.
Occasionally, I break the tent down and soak the plastic shelves in the bleach solution, which is when I replace the flexible duct.
btw, the fogger only gets a little green algae around the discs sometimes...

No slime at all, incredible. Maybe the water in your area has more chlorine. But that filter probably plays a big role. I don't filter the incoming air at all.

I stopped using flexible ducts as they always accumulated grime. Now I have a really simple hard duct setup that I can take apart just like that - no parts are sealed, they are just assembled together.

Anyway, based on your ultimately long cleaning periods I think I'm just fine with the bi-week plan :smile: Cheers guys
