Re: Agar & Petri Dish Problem
    #294039 -

Well, that's what I did. After I poured the agar I immediately put the lids on. Then it seemed like what must have been steam/heat from the warm agar condensed on the inside of the lid as water droplets. And those droplets (some of them) have fallen into the agar and made a level of water on top.

What to do? How to prevent? Please help...

Try letting your agar cool a bit longer before pouring it

if you are working in a very sterile environment, dont put anything over the tops of the agar plates just let them sit for 10 minutes and then cover...this will get rid of the steam and pavlovs dog statement is also a good idea.

If you use 15 g agar per liter of media instead of 20, you will still get an enough hard of consistency, but it will allow you, as Pavlov's Dog said, to pour it at some 40?C(104?F)
Stacking the plates is a good idea, just the upmost plate will still get much condensation.
You can prevent this by putting a glas or jar filled with hot water on the upper plate, this way all of the plates will stay (nearly) condensation free.
