so
i used some oven tek to work with petri dishes.
those are some of them:
(a) my contaminated EQ cake [remember?] was crushed and i took some clean pieces. well this one lives healthy eating some straw pellets expanded with boiled water. nice contrast, hey!!

(b) this one is one of my "spore" petris. its Thai Lipa Yai and i am happy it lives healthy. i have to cut some piece and put it in another petri in the next few days.

(c) last but not least this is Azure's mycelium trying to grow into agar. the pointer shows a really aggressive rhizomorphic myc attacking the agar sorry for the bad quality pic, the battery of the cam was consumed completely and couldnt make a new one. i will in the near future, when the myc will be bigger.

the petris are made before i read how to do them and prevent condensation on the lids...

Agar is fun , real neat watching them grow , sectoring is cool , but when you get that truly purified strain ..............how sweet it is . Good Luck !

i tried to store my petri dishes for some long term... wrapped in seran wrap.. and condesation formed inside and blued the mycellium... i eventually tossed it out because i was afraid that the meathod of preserving was incorrect.... but it looks good... do you preserve dishes?

Hey Kykeon;
You may already be doing this, but here's a little tip I picked up in lab. . .if you store your petris upside down so the agar layer is on the top, the condensation will never drip onto the culture [the real thing to avoid!]. You can also *relatively safely* lift the agar half of the petri and drain the water if it gets too bad. Welcome to the wonderful world of agar. Nice culture on the straw pellets, BTW!

thanx to all of you guyz for your posts!
its my first petris! i am sure next time will be better...
its great to see the mycelium live and prosper inside a clean transparent plastic dish. its weird, because you can examine it for hours but yet dont harm it. the first one, with the straw, is very cool because of the color contrast. i am happy it lives, because it was from a contaminated spore print and all the jars were tossed. so this mycelium is the only piece of life left from a contaminated spore print.

thanx also for the solutions to the condensation prob. Anno notified me that on http://www.fungifun.org/agar/ there is a nice and easy way to avoid condensation. i am gonna work like this next time.
