Psychedelics and healing trauma/grief? * 1
    #29200969 -

I recently lost my little brother to suicide. Since then I've had MANY hospitalizations, medication trials, therapies.
I don't like putting all my faith in one thing but psychedelics have enabled me to live with the souL crushing depression of accepting his death without ruminating on the same thoughts myself.

Is anyone else using mushrooms to heal from trauma/grief?

Sorry if this is too personal I just wanted to share ...

Feel like y'all are my people here. I don't really have friends to talk to or a group that I fit in.

I can not use psychedelics for things like lose or personal pain of this nature. To me it extends or somehow masks something that I need to live with. Time is the only thing that truly works for me, living with the new reality that I find myself having to face. The painful part is how to acquire that time without the weight of your own thoughts crushing you.

As you say you shouldn't put your faith in one thing to help you get through this. Trying new things could be beneficial. Maybe you should look to do some things that are completely new to you, of course they should be healthy. Painting, writing, running, talk therapy something to get you moving mentally and physically. I think it is super important to be as physically active as possible during times of stress, I can not emphasise enough how moving helps the brain.

You find yourself in a place that no human wants to be but you do have the power within you to make it through.

i have lost my parents along the way ...

i have known psychedelics before each died but during the time of their passing i didn't use . only later on when i have already processed some

i for myself had a hard time doing shrooms in such a situation... maybe less so now. suicide is a very different and special situation, i'm not familiar with this feeling. in a way it is less worse and worse depending on perspective

I do use mushrooms to help heal emotional wounds and there are many threads from other people here that deal with this issue too. Use the search tool to help find what has already been shared.

My advice is to dose lower when things are feeling overwhelming. The healing may be slower than a large dose, but it is much more predictable.

Remember to focus on other healthy behaviors too. Exercise, eat well, limit or eliminate alcohol and get good sleep.

Hi, I'm sorry for your loss.

While I don't have any particular advice, I can share with you that I had someone close to me die by suicide when I was 20, but who has also treated me very poorly during our relationship. When I happen to think about him during my trips I tend to feel a sadness that feels removed from me, like it isn't really my issue to face. I'm just disappointed he killed himself, he could have learnt to be a better person and we could have moved on. I don't really know how you truly come to accept suicide, other than time too.

If you're only feeling better about the suicide when actively tripping, it's probably maladaptive to continue. Relying on anything mind altering to fix something you have to come face to face with while sober tends to lead people into relying too much on drugs.

It's not that it makes me feel better about losing him. It's more like, it helps my depression and emotional issues. helps me see it's not ALWAYS pain and suffering.

Lost my younger brother when he was 50
I loaned him my broken old Cadillac STS - I shifted to driving a suzuki.
He fixed the STS then took some meds, some good whisky, parked in his garage with the doors closed and let the fumes carry him away.

I have some great memories with my brother and some odd issues as well, but I still miss him a great deal - it was over 2 decades ago - less painful over time, but never the way I want it to be with him making trouble in the world that I live in.

I can't say if psychedelics help in any way with loss of this kind, but it may help with emotional forbearance and general resilience.

Yes, I agree. That's what I'm getting at, the emotional side. I believe if my brother had legal access to psychedelic medicine to use for his depression/PTSD he might still be here today. I've been through the same places he has, Jails, rehabs, hospitals and it can be a helpless/hopeless situation. As bipolar recovering addict myself emotional regulation is a major part of my staying healthy and not falling into suicidal ideation myself.

That's kinda what I plan to do when I get out of where I'm currently at and can grow shrooms again. I'm hoping I can use them to help me process and work through trauma from physical, emotional and sexual abuse from my childhood that was blocked out of my memory till about a year ago. I'm also hoping to unlock memories that are still blocked out so I can process and work through thoes as well.

Before I answer your question, i feel deeply terrible for you. A big reason my parents split up was also suicide, and although no one in my circle had taken their life, I was definitely on that edge one point. I was young experiencing that too, my heart is out to you D.

That's a reason I use mushrooms/psilocybin; both for dealing with an issue and confronting it, and smaller doses for a sense of direction (creatively) if that makes sense??

However, my first real trip was a mix of the two, but led me to realize things that I could control, things that were over, and the realization that rumination and fear everyday due to past things is hell. I hope giving my piece helps you and any1 here rn.

maybe, but each person has a different way of going. psychedelic is not really something for everybody.
I once thought my brother had a similar questing mind that I have, but in the end his interests were really not the same at all.

First off, thank you for having the courage to share this. That kind of vulnerability takes real strength, especially in a space like this where we're all still figuring out the line between science, soul, and survival.

I’m deeply sorry for your loss. I haven’t walked in your exact shoes, but I’ve felt the kind of darkness you’re describing—and I’ve also felt what happens when a mushroom experience doesn’t erase the pain, but gives it shape, gives it space, and somehow helps you carry it.

You're not alone. I truly believe psychedelics are one of the most powerful tools humanity has for healing—not just our minds, but the disconnect between us and the world, us and each other, and sometimes, us and ourselves. They won’t save us for us, but they can remind us that we’re worth saving.

That’s why I started More Than Spores. Because I believe these fungi are more than a trip. They’re a teacher. A mirror. A bridge. And maybe—just maybe—the spark of a better world, one healed mind and open heart at a time.

If you ever want to connect more, my inbox is always open. Sending love and strength your way. 🍄🫶

I don't think tripping while in pain is ever a good idea. Physical pain or mental pain. Emotions and feelings are amplified when tripping. Instead, it's best to heal a little and then trip.
Just like a physical injury. When you twist your ankle, you stay off of it until it starts to heal. Then you can start to rehabilitate by putting weight on it and the healing speeds up. If you start too early you'll never heal or you'll heal wrong.

When my sons were growing up, there was drama in the house every day. I didn't dare trip. When my parents died there were some very somber months. No tripping for me. When we were trying to sell our house there were a lot of ups and downs, loss of privacy. No way to trip. Now, we're in the new house by the beach, the boys are grown up and on their own, the elderly parents are gone. I can finally trip again!
