Karo Jar question

Qustions, i'm preparing a karo jar, its in a half pint jar 100 ML water and two teaspoons of Light Karo Corn syrup, my question is, after adding the two teaspons (there is already glass in there, and tyvek filters on my jars) do i Shake/mix The jars? Or leave them be and then cook? I have three jars already made one with both teaspoons mixed one with one of the teaspoons mixed and then another added to just sit at the bottom, and one jar with both teaspoons of corn syrup sitting at the bottom. Also, how long do i PC them? And then i assume i'd only have to let them cool for a few hours since liquid cools more uniform than a substrate would.. How much ML of spores per jar? I have two 1/4 inch wholes in the lid beneath tyvek.

also i have some rye grain jars preparing, i did the 100g rye and 100/105/110/120gram water practice jars, 105 to 110 looks the wettest without being soggy after Pc-ing so i should go with that one right? Those are in Pint Jars but even after PC-ing they don't fill the whole thing, so when inocculating through tyvek filter do i just squirt spores onto the top??? or try to get needle in as far as possible, or adjust my formula to have more Grains up to the top. Thanks to anyone who helps out, this is the best hobby i've ever had!

Use 1 Level Teaspoon of Light Corn Syrup (2 will work too) (Karo Syrup or the "no-name" store brand of Light Corn Syrup) per 100 ml of purified water. Mix it well to distribute the heavy syrup into the water.

Pc Time is 20 mins at 15 psi. Be sure to use a standoff plate.

Question, do they ask for distilled Water So as to not have water with contams? or Because they don't want Minerals / other things in the water? I stopped Pc-ing tap water jars and went to the store to get poland springs thinking it was the same as distilled, my friend tells me i'm wrong. Will these jars fail? I PCed for 20 minutes.

Oh and don't pc them in the 200+ range. You'll get pretty honey colored water that you can't use.

I pc at 15 psi for 15 minutes and get this VVVV





Skake the jars really well before pc'ing.

okay unfortunately i already inocculated two jars which were Pced for 20 minutes... am i out of luck? Also on an unrelated topic, If i prepare and PC Rye grain jars and then went to store them for inocculation at a later date, under what conditions should i store them? is that even possible?

Tap water's fine, unless yours is really funky.

That's wrong. I PC Karo at 15 PSI for 20 minutes and it works fine.

Just store them somewhere cool and dry, preferably in a plastic container so that you don't have random contams drifting by.  If they don't contaminate, they're good until they dry out or WWIII happens.  :wink:

i PC cooked mine for 15 min an it has a brown tint to. its been a week and the spores have myc growing on them. just dont know about the color

i made the syringe from a print. You could not see one clump of spores. I did not even think i had spores in the water. i added like 10 drops. 7 days later i have Myc growing!
