    #621588 - 04/28/02 06:24 PM (21 years, 11 months ago)

Umm well i had been incubating a jar and it was doing nicely but for somereason part of was it had colonized crinda dried up really badly and fell apart and couldnt be colonized. I dont know what happened but this was the only jar it happened to. 3/4 of the jars was colonized so im am goin to birth it but it smells bad . .not like a wine/fruity smell like that of mold but just wierd . .it smells like verm only stronger. I dunno i suppose ill see how it looks in a few days because i just started birthing it today . .anyone have ne suggestions of what it might have been?

umm. yea, u got the right idea. wait it out. birth it, and go from there. u be the judge. but to prevent this from happening again... u'll either need to do one of two things.
1) the easiest thing. put more water in when creating a substrate.

or

2) put ur jars on a tray or something when sterilizing in the presure cooker.
i mean, dont let too much of the jar be in the boiling water. have the jars raised out of the water. that way, you wont lose too much moisture

Too little moisture is not the problem in this case.
You have a bacterial contaimation in your jars. How did you sterilize them?
