Well, if you add the rumen, abomasum, omasum, and reticulum together you get 4. If you stand 2 cows side by side, that makes 8. So, there we have 2 rumens, 2 obamasums, 2 omasums and 2 reticulums and a few bored shroomers: total = 8 stomachs.

The reason horse po is better is b/c it is easy to crumble and is in bitesized pieces whereas cow poo is in a huge pattie that is rock hard and hard to deal w/.

Horse shit works very well. Try to find some really old shit. It should look all dried out and is a different color then fresh, or semi fresh.

Take your shit, break it up in very small pieces. Sterilize it for about a hour at a very very low boil. I have found that if the boil is not hot enough you will get seeds that germinate in you dung while its colinizing.

I have used horse shit for P. cubs and now I am trying it out with my Pan Trops I got from Ralph. It took about 5 days to colinize. It tore through the horse shit like a hot knife through butter.

I use PF cakes as spawn.

When using horse shit, should you use vermiculite on the bottom layer? How thick should the shit layer be? Will it stink up your house when sterilizing? What do you put the horse shit in to sterilize?

No bottom layer is needed. The manure layer should depend on how much spawn you are going to use. But for now Im keeping my layer at about 1 inch thick.

Real good decomposed horse shit should not have a bad smell to it. It should smell kinda like dirt mixed with hay.

To cook your crap you should just boil it up in one of your wifes good metal pots. If they ask what you are doing you could say " making some shit to eat"

Hehe he said crap....If you want to cut down on the crap smell and time involved you can microwave the crap 10 minutes with a loose lid. If you want no smell and a definite contaminate free crap, you can pack your crap into quart jars and pressure cook the crap out of them for 45 minutess...

Going crazy will drive you mad, but once you get there the rest is easy.....

I am not sure, but if you pressure cook the crap will that kill all of the beneficial bacteria that pasturising leaves behind, in turn slowing down collinisation and possibly giving contams a foot hold on the case?

No. The reason you pasteurize compost for being spawned is because that compost is going to have contact with contaminated air. You dont want anything that's completely sterile to come into contact with any contaminants, because, like you said, the contaminants grow unihibited.

BUT, if you pack the sheeeit into jars and sterilize the jars; you can inoculate it just like a PF cake. But it must be completely sterile, not just pasteurized.

I dont know of any bacterias in dung that are beneficial to psilocybes; you're confusing dung with casing soil.

Actually cows don't have any stomachs. They have a rumen, an abomasum, an omasum, and a reticulum. One time out in the field I spotted this dumb looking cow (they all look dumb) and I sliced open his belly and crawled inside and took a map.

So do you just throw the dung right into the pan with water and boil it, or do you need to bag it up? I've read you can put the shit in a zip lock bag and boil it. But won't the bag melt? Are there special kinds of bags you can use?

To pastuerize it put all your shit into an old pillow case and dunk it in a pot of water. Keep the temp between 160-170F for an hour, then take out the pillow case and hang it up over night(outside on a tree works great), the next day squeeze it to get rid of extra moisture then mix it with your colonized spawn and case. Some tips: bring the water to 165 first, then add your horse shit and put a weight on top to keep it on the bottom. If your going to use it in jars just treat it like any other substrate.

Sorry, but I don't think anyone saw my post. Do you need to add an ingredient to horse shit in order to balance the pH?

Hummm... Adjusting the Ph is not needed. Placing your dung in a bag is good when you strain it from the water, but is not needed either. If you don't want to mess up one of your good pillow cases you can always just strain it out like you would any other food. Wait until it cools, then squeeze it out.
