Daoism
Kind of a spiritual belief system, but I don’t actively go to any temples or anything.
Not that I would be opposed to it. They are very hard to find though.

Surely the true 'temple' of the Tao is anywhere the wind of change blows; a forest, the subway, your kitchen.

Of course. Just living in the city is frustrating. I would like to just have a temple where I could go and meditate. But they don’t really have any. They have one Buddhist one thats somewhat close by.

Alright, I am new to this board so I want to get to know you all a little. What religion are you? If you dont practice a particular religion right now, then what religion would you say believes as you do?

Im not a particular religion, but right now Im a Panentheist thinker. I believe that God is a part of us and we're a part of God.  Now how about you?

There is only one Religion. It just has a lot of sub-categories.

I feel you man. Well hopefully if not an actual Daoist Temple, you can track down a space that you could treat with Temple-like reverence and go there to meditate. Perhaps visiting the local Buddhist one would be worthwhile!
I live less than 2 hours from Samye Ling yet I've never gone...

Only if you redefine the word... There seem to me to be a great number of distinctions between the various belief systems and their moral codes.

The true nature of religion is that it is an innate condition. Any particular flavor (whether inherited or acquired) by an individual is subject to change without notice and is subject to terms and conditions set by the organization.

If one could ask ancient man what their religion is, it can be imagined that their answer would be "yes".

And the power of miracles lies where, exactly?

"Dual-aspect monism is the view that the mental and the physical are two aspects of, or perspectives on, the same substance."

Maybe that - I was reading the differences between Vasistha and Shankara, maddening. A significant difference I think is that Vasistha may have be considered more eccentric, like Tilopa, and does seem to align more than with Shankara on whatever is substance of mind, on a Buddhist side. On the other hand Shankara did some extraordinary things revealing his levels of freedom. So I don't know why they'd say Vasistha and Tilopa are cray cray. Tilopa was said to hover above villagers and what not, iirc, causing havoc.

Oh yeah, Shankara was said to give true objectivity to the world, though with all being the same in source like. whoopy do. It threw me for a loop considering the Shankara materials we went through here. I don't remember much emphasis. Obscurations, I remember obscurations.

Atheist, but I was raised in an extremely religious Orthodox Jewish environment. My father was catholic but didn't care. Was weird.

When did you convert to Atheism?

I don't really consider it converting, but when i was nine they gave a talk at the temple about Job and it struck me how cruel God would have to be to know Satan was going to greatly harm one of your most fervent followers but refusing to stop it so you can prove some bet?

And then the insulting exclamation point to that story, that God gave him back his sons and daughters twofold once he had proven his faith (again and again)? Like you can ever replace losing seven sons and daughters and a wife.

They could never adequately explain why it's OK to worship someone that allows that to happen.

Or that when Elijah the prophet was being made fun of by LITERAL CHILDREN for being bald, God sent a fucking She-Bear to kill them for it.

Or when Moses asked God in Numbers "um do we really need to kill women and children" and God responds "lol I told you not to let one unpure drop of blood in my midst so you are to commit wholesale genocide on the midianites and only keep the young Virgin girls so you can fuck them and indoctrinate them into judaism."

So I noped out of that religion. Then I went on a spiritual quest - Islam, Mormons, jehovahs witness, Sikhism, Buddhism... you name it I sampled it. But it turns out they were all inadequate to answering the real mysteries of life.

So eventually I landed on Science, because time and time again it has proven the only surefire method of pushing back the darkness in the limits of our knowledge. Time and time again it hypothesized, tests over and over, and discovers ever more amazing facts about our universe. Quantum Mechanics makes your iPhone work, is pivotal to nano technology. Astrophysics has broadened our horizon forever.

As Carl Sagan once said in his pale blue dot speech, we are all of us as far as we know alone. And this is the only home we have ever known or ever will know. It is incumbent to live in reality and be cognizant of the dangers growing to our planets future.  And religion simply wants me to believe the real reward comes after.  Too irresponsible for me.

My religion is fuck the police, because I'm very religious about that.
But also a bit of Hinduism, since Krishna told us our duty, and the duty of a warrior is to fight, but only for good shit, ergo, fuck the police.

Most religions are the same , the 5 principals if Islam, the 10 commandments of Hinduism and Christianity, the 8 noble things in Buddhism...

Basically don't steal from someone , don't fuck their wife, be nice to people, give people food if they're hungry and you're not super poor, don't sell heroin/fentanyl ...basically dont be a piece of shit.

As long as someone is good, it's all good , but if someone is a piece of shit Muslim, or a piece of shit Christian, or a piece of shit jew, then it is because they were already pieces of shit, not their religion

Fuck the police
