On Theism and Atheism
    #4787057 -

I've gone back and forth on these two ideas so many times that I can no longer tell the difference. The line between God and no-God has disappeared for me. The one thing that makes sense anymore for me is that we are all one. I once identified that oneness with God, but then I wondered why God would be necessary for this oneness. The same thing has happened for me regarding my beliefs about an afterlife. I had long felt that after death we would re-experience this oneness with all creation. But then one day I had an epiphany that oneness and nothingness could be experientially the same. All this duality is breaking down for me. It doesn't make sense anymore. Opposites are blending into one.

Excellent!

I personally believe that after death and before life there is an unmanifest nonduality. I believe in God, but not in the typical sense of the traditional Christian godhead with human attributes and desire.

What I call God the Hindus call the Self: the supreme suchness that is in all living creatures and is the nonduality. It is the manifest and the unmanifest.

The Self is the eternal witness. It has no desires or feelings of any sort and can not be influenced no matter what.

Actually, after searching around a bit on wikipedia, it seems that Nontheism best describes my beliefs:

Quote:
Used in the strict sense, as by those who self-identify as nontheists, the term describes a particular worldview for which the question of divinity is regarded as irrelevant and meaningless.

Buddhists would also argue that this is Nirvana. All things are already here, all things have already gone, come and gone infact. This is the past, present, future, heaven, hell and everything in between.

I think Atheism is closer to finding out what God is. No preconceived notions. No implanted ideas. No garbage added by organized religion. Then when you come upon the experience of contacting the oneness behind everything, which is ultimately inside you, you will see how this mess got started. I really think GOD consists of + and -, not one or the other.

". I once identified that oneness with God, but then I wondered why God would be necessary for this oneness. "

what do you mean? God is simply a name we call it by. i think the best name for it is the Self with a capital s which was coined by ramana maharshi. however, because most people won't understand that term i use God.

Exactly. The oneness was there first. Has many names. Hence the problem I spoke of.
