what's your stance on homeless living in the parks??
    #28782461 -

I was just in a Toronto reddit thread where a guy had his tent and stuff taken by the city while he was at work

He even works but can't afford rent

He brought up one point that the problem homeless often livedowntown, the ones in the suburbs like himself want to be left alone and carry out their trash, he said his area was 5 minutes off the trail through thorny bushes and he kept it immaculate, he doesn't know who reported him or why, but three people living in those woods got removed, they had a human finding dog with them

When I was at my grandmothers house (in the suburbs) there was some abandoned homeless camps in the woods, with tons of trash around them, sucked for metal detecting when it was a golf hole in the 1900s

I saw one guy in a tent beside the main path, he wasn't even hiding, he was chill, kept to himself and his site was clean, all I saw was his tent and a bike, I passed by him on the way in and the way out, I was a little apprehensive of passing him the first time, but the second time I didn't even care

Where else can these people live, the city should set up subsidized housing for them, even if it's just a tent sized room with a bed and a hotplate, perhaps on the outskirts and place a soup kitchen and a clothing charity shop there

2018 I think  it was I was at Alexandria Park on Bathurst, there's a hotel there I was staying at and come night fall the area was packed with sleeping people, and that was before covid, I've heard it has gotten worse, when I was 15 circa 2005 or so the park was pretty empty, there was a temporary skatepark there I'll remember for ever, it was my favourite skatepark

It's a complicated issue, I HATE how a lot of them trash the area, and there's this guy on reddit who claims he cleaned up other people's trash to make his area kept clean, if that is true I more then welcome him in my neck of the woods

I pick up the odd trash if it fits in my metal detecting pouch and I'm near a garbage, but I could do more really, and I'm only in areas like that 3 or 4 times a week for a couple hours

And I don't know what the mantis is praying for
But he's probably just thanking the Lord
That he don't live in a home
And he don't got a phone
And he don't sit around all angry and bored

I dont want to "why don't want they just" but the guy living in a tent and going to work every day could probably share a basement apt in oshawa and commute by GO train. No one can afford a one bedroom in DT Toronto, including myself.

I'm opposed to homeless camps. It mostly drug addicts, there is always a dozen stolen bikes and other property at them. An insane amount of garbage. They are fire hazards as people try to say warm with propane cannisters.

I think we should just move to shanty towns like third world instead of camps and tarps. There are so many homeless now, now way the government can build housing for all of them. Here are some camps from across north america

Edmonton

Vancouver

Vancouver

Calgary

Santa Cuz

Spoakane

Seattle

Well well that's a complex subject ...

First, why people are out there in the streets ? Often, they don't have a family or they're garbage (child abuse, incest, LGBTphobia and so on, whatever you can think of). So people on the streets, nearly all the time, don't have connections within normal people.

So you start being on the streets and there, it's not summer camp lead by some boy scout : you can be robbed, hit, mistreated by the other homeless people or normal ones. If you're a woman, you probably gonna be raped.
So of course, if someone proposes you some drug you can be tempted ... if you weren't a drug addict before due to some psychatric issues or trauma.

And then, to perfect all that, you will hear time to time that it's your fault :
- you should work
- you should not drink or smoke
- you should do that or this blablabla

But in the streets, nothing is easy. Who wants to hire someone who lived years on the streets ? Nearly no one.

As for the clean part, it's true, their camp are often crappy. Guess what ? they're like everyone, just look at what looks a stadium after a match ...

So my stance, to answer your question, is helping them as soon as possible. There is multiple virtue to that :
- the sooner the better (less trauma)
- more security for everyone

If they didn't want me to sleep in the park they should have thought about that before building one in my house :mad2:

If you see the present condition of everything as anything but horribly sad, you need a head check.  The world is a writhing feverish nightmare that only makes sense if youre half-conscious.

this is hypnogagia.
We live in a culture where we treat dogs better than a human with mental illness.

Shit and piss in a porcelain bowl full of drinking water and make it disappear.  wash food off a plate with hot drinking water and make it disappear.  pulverize homeless people with pressurized drinking water in the winter and make it disappear.  put their things in the trash and make it disappear.

I live in the current condition and am working out of it and comedy/humor is a coping mechanism/survival strategy I found in my sobriety vs shooting heroin or drinking half gallons to not be able to perceive this reality.

I've learned to accept the suffering lately and I'm very aware of it being sad. I just don't see the point in pretending to be sad online about it when I actually live in it. It seems that it's a privilege to be able to have the perspective you do on the situation.

Part of the reason I used to do drugs was to block out the fact that despite everyone feeling bad all the time that the poor only grow poorer and the rich only get richer. Something is very wrong when brand new homes are being built next to homeless encampments and all our focus online is literally on ourselves or foreign affairs.

Nobody actually gives a shit online this is all fake. Come out here and actually join the chaos and we can talk then.

I just finally worked myself out of a park and am working myself into a living situation and sadly this isnt the first time, Sometimes there is no where else to sleep in a city. What's even worse is some cities have anti homeless architecture in their parks not allowing you to even sleep there and forcing you into the outskirts of the city so you aren't an eyesore to the rich. You aren't allowed to sleep anywhere in general as is and homeless shelters are always full and honestly suck, also they usually come with stipulations and curfews.

I hope you're at least offering to house up some homeless folks if you really are serious about what you say and if so then hell ya man and if not then you are apart of the problem

It's Koyaanisqatsi
(watch the film from 1982)

The title is a Hopi Indian word meaning "life out of balance." Created between 1975 and 1982, the film is an apocalyptic vision of the collision of two different worlds -- urban life and technology versus the environment...

IDK - maybe that not relavent. But it seems like there was much less homelessness before the tech boom.

There are homeless camps all over every park here in Honolulu.  It don't bother me any.  Alot of them have mental health problems and they can't help leaving their trash everywhere.  I wish the ones that could help it wouldn't do it.  Feeling down and out really takes its toll but that's no reason to trash the city.

These people rarely bother other people and there's no reason they can't stay there. Rent is insane here and people without a trade have to work two jobs just to afford a place and still can't build a savings.  Every time I see them I think to myself I'm glad that's not me anymore. I'm glad my mental health is stable now.

The city had programs to try and house these people though I don't know what they are doing but there have been new efforts to try and help.

I don't go to the park anyways. They can have it. Sucks when they make a mess though.

I do worry about them leaving needles especially.

Ya that part is just the result of being too far gone and not caring anymore which I can understand the anger but I've always been pretty good about picking up my trash and rigs. I always carried a folgers can for my dirty needles cause I didn't want kids or dogs to get accidentally pricked and I used to beat up other people I'd see breaking bottles on the rails cause broken glass is annoying as shit. I always got grocery bags in my backpack so wherever I'm at i can pick up trash cause it also looks better when the cops roll up on me and they do mention about the trash being a problem more times than not and it will make or break being kicked out of an area or getting a ticket or not getting a ticket sometimes.

I agree the trash is out of control

Some parks become homeless communities okay fine. As long as they let me have other beautiful parks to trip in. I don’t need all of the parks.

I can see why people would be upset when their previous idyllic park right next to their home becomes a homeless community and I could see why they would try to put a stop to it. But I don’t really care.

There's this one I drive by pretty frequently, not at a park, but at a specific crossroads on the sidewalks. It's kinda fascinating, they get cleared out every so often, then it builds back up. First one or two RVs, a couple tents on the sidewalks. Then tarp structures, then pallet structures, a whole bike mechanic area, cooking area, banners. They start to spill out onto the street, block one of the lanes with a dumpster, claiming more and more territory. City tried to keep them out by fencing the area off, the fences just got repurposed for more walls.
Seems like if you gave it a couple decades, they'd build it out into a new city block.

I don't really care about the trash, but seeing swarms of rats run around sketches me out.

People are fed up and addicted to fentanyl. Here's the news, you are also the homeless people. We are all each other and the human condition is a mirror we are seeing the reflection of ourselves in. There is an illusion that gets placed back up to encourage greed and reproduction. The reality is uncomfortable because it is conditioned to be received that way. We are all the same whether anyone is ready for that conversation or not we are all each other. The sooner people can realize this the sooner the world can heal. We are at a peak exponential situation with a problem that's gotten far out of control and it was manipulated to be this way so that rich could keep getting richer. It's fucked up that it's gotten to this point because there really is no fixing any of this. The US is gonna continue to push people inside and encourage them to be lazy while AI takes over all the jobs so that the rich can enslave the middle class as uber drivers and the poor continue to shoot the fentanyl and the rich already have the eject button on a silver platter. There is no heart anymore.

The world isn't broken

Human hearts are.

There was a bunch of them camping a few blocks from me in a wooded area. The city eventually tore down all the trees. Maybe 3 or 4 acres of trees. No one lives over there anymore so problem solved, right?

Yeah and who's going to pay for that?
:dumbass:
Dont worry, nobody. "universal income"
:lolsy:
That one is powerful and amazes me. What a way to actually further cripple and ruin them. We did "ubi" already and it made exponential numbers of criminals and people more worthless than any people in history

"the city should set up subsidized housing for them, even if it's just a tent sized room with a bed and a hotplate, perhaps on the outskirts and place a soup kitchen and a clothing charity shop there"

In reality these things exist in a lot of places, they are total hell holes that homeless people only go to as a last resort because they are good places to get robbed, raped, and murdered, or otherwise just disappear entirely. They are often very scary places.

If you'd like to barf, look up how much your cities high school has budgeted annually for cheerleaders alone. Sickening to think that as a society that is what gets the funding.
