Some cultivators use this as a casing rather than other materials. Some brands have bacteria in them to stop fungi from growing, so I was looking for this particular brand. People who use it swear by it but I have never tried it. I guess this is worth a project on my part.

Sounds like something that I might like to give a try....I dont really like the idea of just pure verm very much.....and even though I've only tried growing this once...I already hate mixing.

Instead of use as a top casing layer can one Can one mix some coco fiber with colonized Rye grain equally? There would be no casing layer. Would the results be okay?

It says that it will expand to 9 times its dehdrated state. One brick that costs $2.95 is supposed to make 9 quarts of material. I just ordered 3 bricks with 3 day shipping and it was $12.00.

I tryed the coco fiber for the casing but i got green contamination on it just after the first flush, i'm not sure what brand the fiber was so if i pressure cook it will this make it ok to use without fear of contamination ?
Also would coco fiber be ok to use as a casing layer for pan cyan ?
cheers!!

He says no sterilization required..If you got green mold it was probably just your fault. I get green mold a lot and then afterwards I realize it was probably because I was wearing dirty clothes, or I had just pet the dog and not washed my hands.

The stuff is much better than peat, only reason it isn't more widely used is poor availability. You can get peat anywhere and its super cheap cheap ['bout $5 for a 3 cuft compressed bale], while coco fiber is only available in a few hydroponic stores or by mail order.
