I got a syringe from a trusted vendor on here and it was straight bacteria… source swabs or prints fuck MSS IMO.

Spores are always dirty to some degree - no matter what material they are stored in/on.  Thats why everyone (except mushroom jesus) uses agar to obtain clean cultures before expanding them.

You’re 100% right but in my very little experience swabs and prints are just better. You can look at my first ever post on here and see how nasty this syringe was.

Prints are definitely my preferred way to receive spores.

I posted this in the mushroom cultivation forum and someone said to post my question here so I am. Thanks in advance.

Is it safe or worth it to take colonized grain from a (bacterial?) Jar and put it on agar to get clean culture?

I inoculated some grain jars and several are doing quite well but a couple seem to have gone bad after shaking. They were going really slow compared to the others. I am wondering if I can take some clean looking grains place them on agar, or take an agar q tip and rub in on the top where it looks good and put that on agar and get clean culture without risking my whole grow and contaminating my whole house? For example I know that if you see trich in the jar, just throw it away, but is that applicable in this situation as well. The reason I want to save them is I only have 2 jars of that variety (KSSS) here are some pictures. The other jar doesn't look contaminated but it's so slow I almost bet it will go bad before it finishes. Is this doable or worth it? Also, I think my grains were on the dry side so I'm hoping if I do the transfer they will do better on better grains after a couple transfers. Thanks.

rings are either caused by changes in light exposure or dramatic changes in temps.

ive only noticed it during the summer:shrug:

Search rings on agar literally first thjng i click on is mush saying it could be both . Double check before knocking info dood

@trky if u use grain thats bacterial contaminated u risk the chance of carrying it over and having meshed in mold /bacteria.
Imo top fruit your jars if u want shrooms
And get a new culture going on agar .

This is what you said!

Yeah you can do that.

The whole point of agar is to take something that is not clean/questionable and clean it up (think spore prints or swabs).

If you want a second opinion on your plates post in the Agar Envy thread.

Maybe I misinterpreted it but fuck you either way!!!

Does your OP look like you got plates of agar to review? No. When you are expanding the agar you post in this thread retard.

The thread is called agar envy because only people who don’t have it are allowed in here. So they can be envious of those of us who do.

God I have so much agar. I wish I could talk about it but 🤷♂️

no need to yell. Dood.

That used to be said pretty often, yet I've never seen evidence of or seen anyone show a light cycle cause rings. I've also seen cultures in no light have rings.

I like to be proved wrong, but an old post from mushboy, (that you have to filter to his posts to find) isn't gonna convince me. I'll test it when I get a couple cultures going. And try and cause some with light just to see if I can.

out of my first 4 syringes, 1 did this in every cup:

(jmf)

2 have done almost nothing except this one cup out of 8:

(mdk)

1 had myc floating in it and it's keeping all my hopes and dreams alive

(squatalensis?)

does anyone think that nasty jmf syringe would be worth trying to clean up? maybe c10's streaking then poke transfers? maybe I should post this in the bacterial jar thread for answers?
