Petridish and agar problem
    #2550829 - 04/12/04 10:21 AM (19 years, 11 months ago)

Hey guys, I have a question about store petridishes.
I have about 20 I poured about2 months ago, and now some are getting greenmold. Everything is sealed, seems to be alot of moisture build up inside them. They are being stored in a fridge at about +5 or so. Any suggestions on wht to do about moistuire build up, and or proceedure on doing dishs. Even a reashi culture I got about 6 month ago is going to green mold.

Peace all.

Have you tried h202 in the agar?
Works wonders for me. I think
the only real way to stop moisture
build up is to keep them at steady room temp.

Anytime mine go through temp changes (changes from the
temp they cooled too after being poured) they seem to
steam up.

Btw, what are you useing to seal up your plates?

P.s Also, are you letting your plates
fully colonise before placing them into cold storage?

This would help stop green mould getting into you
gene bank.

Whut is the peroxide to agar ratio. These plates are just agar, nothing elso on them, expect green mold.

Thanks guys

Well, I add .84ml h2o2 to 500ml of agar mix. My peroxide is
17% so you need to do the math to work out how much
of yours you need.

Peroxide stops spores germinating, so you can only use
it on mycelium transphere plates.
