That guy on the internet

You know that guy on the internet? The archetypical internet archetype? Yeah, that's the one. Who IS that guy? In my mind this guy is a 16 or 17 year old guy who never gets out, never gets laid, doesn't do anything, just sits around typing stuff on the internet. The funny thing is, in almost every single online encounter I (and everyone) will make the default assumption that the person they're communicating with is this guy.. But then you find out he's a little older.. ok, put him in a basement apartment, typing away in a stagnant atmosphere of dirty socks and a bed that's never seen woman.. You see where I'm going.. You guys ever notice this phenomenon? You ever get mistaken for this internet guy? I always laugh when I do like "Hahaha it's not me, it's everyone else here!"

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

interesting... it seems society has developed a new archetype for "the internet peruser".

or maybe its an new play on the old archtype "seeker?" is that even an archetype? oh well.

i do think discussions about archetypes belong in S&P.

lol... I know what you mean, the stereotypical computer geek being the 16 year old star wars freak with glasses and frekkles right? I never thought anybody here on the shroomery looked like that though.

No one on the shroomery I have met looks like that.
I used to know a guy in high school who fit that archetype, but that's about it.
We may all be computer nerds, but we are cool, shroom-eating computer nerds with friends (most of us anyway).

I love how I'm the only one who ever starts worthwhile discussion in S&P but then somebody always moves my threads because I don't mention Pi or aliens. Fuck that noise, I'm being oppressed by mods who probably have plastic blunt-tipped scissors embedded deep inside their skulls.

It is true that there's a stereotypical image of the internet user, which WAS basically true up until the mid '90's. But as time goes on, it's been my observation that this is less and less true. Nowadays it's pretty much a mixed lot who uses the internet on a regular basis. :smile:

Yeah... i always got that vibe from people... they thought i was that guy.
