The clothes you put on are an illusion. Your threads do not show the world what is inside your head, rather they show the world what you want to wear. Clothes do not make the man. Putting on a colorful shirt isn't free expression, it's putting on a colorful shirt. Some people like it, and some people don't. If you made your own clothes, and wore those, it might be different, but you really can't judge anybody based on what they're wearing. Sure, you can suspect them and presume things about them, but as long as you're open to how their personality may be totally different than how they appear, there are no problems.

Of course, a group of black kids in the inner city all wearing red or blue could be an indicator of gang membership, but that's no excuse to judge or condemn them... they're just a little misguided and they desperately need a good example to follow.

yes, i fail to see the connection between stranger-danger and archetypes.

the connection between media and archetypes, yes. but aside from that, I'm lost... (although i do agree that stranger-danger has a negative impact on society).

In short, I don't quite understand Jung's theories but I feel compelled to defend my position. However, since most of the people who responded so far have a much more familiar relationship with his works, I'm just going to let this go so I won't make an ass out of myself again.

your comments seem to relate more to facades, or personas than archetypes.

put simply, persona = mask you put on, depending on the situation, or "clothes" to represent a certain image, whereas archetypes are basic models which we adope certain attributes from, mostly being an unconcious (subconcious) process.

the link EllemyshShade posted is pretty good for an introduction, but the concepts are pretty basic.  to understand its imperative to read Jung's Phenomenology of the Self
