I had lots more pics but could only upload these today. I hope you enjoy! I will put pics up tomorrow of the yummy dinner I made with the oyster mushrooms. I didn't find any identifiable psychedelics today that I knew of, and could only positively i.d. the oysters...but I digress...
The area I hiked in. I must be very lucky to live so close!
Some adorable babies! The adults were roughly 2-3 times bigger. I *think* these could be Cortinarius percomis. They smelled delicious and were absolutely a gorgeous lemon yellow! They stained brown after getting a bit wet and handled...
This and the one below are the same species, I could not identify, but I can't tell you how much I wanted to eat it! I took a small taste- it was absolutely tender, delicate, fresh, soft and mild. Oh and Sooooo beautiful!
My dinner! I am so happy to have discovered a wonderful source of delicious oyster mushrooms, right by a river!!! I will be back soon for more.
The oyster spread. I shared with some friends of course. Yum! I wish I could show you guys the other pics- there are some great ones. Tomorrow though!
*Namaste*

I bet a lot of people who end up eating Amanita virosa say the same thing before they eat it
Be careful with those all white mushrooms with white gills, they might kill you.
Nice haul on the oysters!

Beautiful pictures, where do you live? I wish I had places like that close to home.
Your signature pic is excellent.

Great pics. A day of mushroom hunting is fun. A day of mushroom hunting with some edibles to bring home is better than a smoking cow.

Hey gumbydude- I know, I know...that is why I only had a teeny taste- with my tongue- I didn't eat any, just tasted. Because I thought it was something in my book identified as bitter tasting. So I was wrong. Thanks though.

I dunno; but White Gills usually means poisonous, for the most part.

Good stuff.
The white gilled mushroom appears in the second photo to have free gills. Since the cap is relatively smooth, there's a strong possibility that it is an Amanita. For identification we need to see the base of the stem. The one you show the underside of we can see that the base of the stem was broken off, but there also appears to be a small bit of tissue hanging, possibly a fragment of the volva.
Amanita is a genus known mostly for being deadly. About 95% of mushroom fatalities are from people eating Amanitas. They are also less well known for tasting good. Unfortunately, that includes the deadly species. Amanita includes some very distinctive species that can be easily identified, but yours fall into one of the groups that are not so easy. If you find some more, pick them carefully to get the entire stem base. If necessary, dig into the ground to get the entire thing (some Amanitas extend into the soil almost like a taproot). If possible, get some young specimens so we can know if there's a partial veil. Other important features include the odor and bruising colors.
Among the edible Amanitas is a species (Amanita caesarea) whose flavor was so prized that the ancient Romans made it illegal for common people to eat them.
What part of the Rockies?
Happy mushrooming!

That one had just popped out of the ground, didn't see it on my way up, but it was out on my way down the trail. Someone else picked it but of course *I* would have done a better job! I am really curious about this shroomie....

Arrest that peasant, for he picked a ceasarea! Off to the Colosseum!
