Had a great day on Dartmoor with my Dad and Brother on another edible mushroom hunt.

We got away from our Dad for an hour to our secret spot to pick this lot!



Awesome looking wax cap (I think) I thought I'd share. It even has that classic liberty cap shape

People saying they've been finding mainly small ones , I found a place the other day which was amazing , they were just everywhere andi found some real big ones there too. It seemed like nobody knew about this field although just a few seconds drive up the road people were walking around picking them quite obviously, one guy was just walking around with a bag and filling the bag lol but this place I found was amazing I couldn't believe it.

The place I found was public land but No1 was there at all, only saw 1 person walking their dog the whole time.

Second trip and another good day I can't believe how many are out. I got bored and gave up counting at 2800 but still carried on picking. Then got bored of picking and walked passed hundreds on the way back to the car.
Total over 3000 shrooms and over 1kg in weight.

Wow man , I had quite the same experience the other day got tired of picking and left knowing there are so many more there.

Whereabouts you find yours ? Also how the hell did you count them lol

I get the same thing, strolling around on my own, then driving home past furtive looking characters on the roadside lol! Well done for finding it!

Hi I just count as I pick them, i count to hundred and put one in a different pocket every hundred then count them at the end of the walk. I deffinately Wouldn't be counting up to 2800 one at a time hahaha.
I'm in Lancashire only covered about a 1/4 of the field and only been to one of my fields, there are literally thousands out and about. Not bad for 3hours picking.
Where abouts are you?

This was around Snowdonia, I've only been here a few days so not sure about the last weeks.

I'm not so sure about the size depending on temps and rain now, I went out today and found loads of chunky ones, it seems to depend on the grass, if the grass is short then they tend to be smaller.

Well done on your find in the Peaks and thanks for sharing the pics.

How do you even go about drying that many at a time? Newspaper all over the house?
