I've never been to a casino. A strip club either. They both sound like not my kinds of scenes.

I've only been one other time (where I actually gambled), and that was a 4 day stay at a casino in Detroit (yes Detroit) when I was in town for a University of Michigan football game up the road in Ann Arbor.

I could maybe go a couple times a year, but could take it or leave it. Honestly I should just leave it and never go again. I donated some $500 in gambling alone (I'm guessing) when I was in Detroit. And then gave the casino another $125 yesterday.

So basically yesterday I paid $275 (the room, food/tips and alcohol) so I could have the privilege of giving the casino 125 bucks. So 400 altogether in 1 day.

Man they charged like upwards of $10 a beer at the casino yesterday. And I probably had like 7. I wonder if I could sneak beer in next time? There's a fridge in the room and they were selling bottles at different bars around the casino so if I was walking around with a bottle of some generic beer like bud light I don't know how they'd know.

I live in Texas and for the most part I agree -- it's meh. The summers are absolutely brutal and the landscape is as boring and nature-less as it gets (for the most part; far west TX in the Big Bend region is pretty majestic).

You paid for drinks in a casino

I just wait for the watered down cocktails to make an appearance on the floors unless I really really want something specific.

Yeah this was at the Choctaw Casino Resort in Oklahoma -- immediately after you leave the TX border. And they don't do the free alcohol for gamblers on the casino floor. All alcohol has to be paid for and they gouge you dearly for it.

When i travelled to Vegas, i saw a guy bringing in a cooler. I thought "Damn thats a great idea" because casinos have zero water fountains and a cooler would be nice for water bottles.

And it would also be useful for smuggling beers into your room and keepin them chilled.

And how 'bout the pizza?  I've a friend that went down to live there for 2 years.  Came back to say that he could'nt find a good pie anywhere in the state.  I recall that you like them party pizzas so your opinion ov pizza is'nt to be trusted(), but can Texas make a pizza?  People can say what they want about Philly and its burbs, but it's easy to find a damn good pie here.

Never been but my late grandmother liked vacationing in Texas so much that she went from not giving a hoot about football to becoming a big Cowboys fan, which influenced some ov my family to follow suit.  I admire the pride many have in Texas.  Seems people are either born to be Texans or not at all.

Yeah they had nice mini-fridges at this casino in the rooms. And the rooms weren't bad. Really clean. Everything was pretty new. Flat screens (then again every place has those these days). Really nice, huge bathrooms. Modern. Hell the bathroom was nicer than my apartment

But yeah dude, next time I'm stuffing a 12 pack in my bag and taking that to the room to put in the fridge. Food, too. You could still bring in quality foods that can be eaten cold. Like smoked salmon. Cocktail shrimp. Crackers and spreads. Stuff like that. All that stuff would be one less thing the casino can gouge you for. I didn't bring anything but  my wallet and I spent easily $100 plus on food and drinks (and tips).

Next time when I need a beer I'm just going to go back to the room. Chill and drink a beer. And that's less time I'd be on the casino floor anyway, which is a good thing. Then when I'm done I just go back to the casino floor.

By the way I was thinking, it may be cool to take like a half blotter next time. To make things a little more interesting. All the sounds of people playing and colors of the million slot machines make for an interesting environment for sure

Lol let's not get it twisted now -- I didn't say that Totino's pizzas are high level pizzas

I know they are absolute bottom of the pizza food chain pizzas. What I said was, is that if I'm drunk enough that yeah even I can enjoy a Totino's party pizza. Then again I could probably enjoy a deep fried tennis shoe if I'm drunk enough

:drunkdriver:

As for your question, in a place like Dallas or Houston (or Austin), these are big metropolitan areas with a ton of transplants from elsewhere, so yes I would say that you can find good pizza if you look hard enough. There's plenty of people who are from New York/Chicago/etc. who have their own pizza places down here.

Hehe, i understand.  Was just joshing about.  Yeah, my friend said that there were transplants but they still somehow sucked.  Perhaps the ingredient network for pizzas is limited there, i'm not sure.  It's easy to make good crust, but a pizza is not perfected unless it has great cheese and sauce, which requires the good shit.  Perhaps my friend is mistaken(although we have similar pizza taste) and i'll give ol' Tex the benefit ov the doubt.  Just rambling, i'm not sure if i slept or not.

Well Texas is obviously no New York or Chicago or Philly when it comes to pizza. Certainly the ratio of pizza places that are mediocre or worse in TX are going to heavily outnumber those places I mentioned.

The Dallas/Fort-Worth area though is some 7 million people. Houston is like 2 and a half or 3 million. In cities this big if you look hard enough you're bound to find some hidden gems. But no, no place in TX is ever going to be known for its pizza prowess.

Well, I'm from Texas (1965) and the good pizza places are wood fired ones, and there is a Pizza Uno there. I left the back in 1999, went back in 2010-2014. There is a really good pie place on the gay strip, "Italia Express" (other good dishes too), and other places in tow like Grimaldis, I'Fritelli, Roccos, LA Gourmet, Bellini's, Fireside Pies, Cane Rosso, Campisi's (been there a long time), probably a few more.

Yeah Campisi's is just about as authentic as you'd find anywhere. Even New York. Been owned and operated by the same Italian family since 1946 as far as I know.

Once upon a time in Dallas it actually had a mafia scene and the Italian gangsters of the 40's/50's/60's frequented Campisi's. Guys like Jack Ruby.

I went into the original location a little over a year ago and sat down and had some pizza and pasta.

It still has that dark and old school authentic vibe to it also. From what they say it hasn't changed much since the beginning.

Seriously though, these people make more than enough money from degenerate gamblers who are more than happy to give their paychecks away to them. Every weekend they pull in enough cash to swim in.

The casino I went to yesterday is doing so well that they're currently building an expansion on the grounds because they bring in so many gamblers that it's become too busy on weekends. So they're adding this.

But god forbid I come out of my hotel room with my own beer -- the security there would threaten to kick me out for that, confiscate my beer and tell me to head down and buy one of their beers that are marked up 500% or more than the exact same brand of beers down the street at the grocery store. If that's not the definition of pure greed I don't know what is.
