And it is midnight so Im gonna bump this thread in Honor of Ham, who I haven't seen in a bit.

I did my nighttime Oat Prep (experiment) 2 inches in the bottom of a 55qrt tub of dry Oats. Added 4 inches of water and some Potassium Metabisulfite to let it sit over night and off gas.

Yeah you can use Campden tabs, But I perfer powdered Potasium Metabisulfite because you don;t have to break it up. I use to do alot of wine making, thinking about how we can incorporate the best of both worlds.

Theory is, Campben tabley, will create an anaerobic environment and kill any wild yeast and bacteria. Then I will either add yeast to the oats to allow the oats to ferment. OR I will drain and PC, I might do both to make a side by side.

Once Fermented I can drain off the grain alcohol and boil the grains and let dry. I have no idea why I want to try this, but it is loosely based on Edmunters work on FWC's.

If I remember correctly from my moonshine making day the metabisulfite doesnt actually kill off molds and yeasts it basically stunts there growth long enough for your yeast to reproduce and culture itself in the must and thats why if you add sugars at the end of a brewing cycle after using the metabisulfite to stop fermentation it will start again.
Therefor wouldn't it be better to just skip the potassium metabisulfite and just let the wild yeast have there way with it. It doesnt take long for grain to ferment by itself just add water. Plus in brewing the wild yeast is only really killed off so you dont get weird flavors. Unless you're planning to drink the fermented grain water I dont see the point.

Hello everyone, I'm new here. Just waited an hour for my PC to start to vent. Third time running it. Super tired but we're past the half way point of my first grain cook!

I'm super tired.

Well these are just some experiment jars while I'm continuing to isolate, and some grain water for agar when my MEA runs out. Also thought it'd be good practice for when I do have isolates. Plenty of oats lol

It's been a short while since I've done any midnight mycology. I've been wanting to start a new variety of cubes so I'm in my ghetto lab doing some late night agar work.
I'm starting some Puerto Rican cultures to see what that's all about.

I really wanna run this Golden Halo print too but I feel a little bit reluctant because it's a print from 2018 and from what I gather it likely wasn't a reliable domesticated variety at that point in time. I could be wrong but idk.

I'm fuckin stoned and indecisive.

Got the PC nearly done too, gonna pour up some fresh plates later.

I discovered that I have plates that I poured in August last year and I'm kinda surprised they all look nice and clean and still usable.

And yeah, not midnight quite yet (for me) but I'll be doing this shit all night.

Did I mention I'm stoned?

I've got 10 quarts in the PC coming down right now. 2 hour PC, took two hours to get it to pressure too :frown: Cooking on a hot plate sucks.

After those are out and cooling I'm going to prep some coir for some in vitro fruiting, then make some LI and 'noc up the jars I made. I'm guessing I'll be at it until 3 or so.. I also checked my 2 day old transfers and I had a sector really take off on one, a quarter inch further out than any other bit. So I'll probably grab that too, PE6.

I usually take about two hours to get mine to pressure too I warm it up super slow. Then wait for steam to vent for awhile them bring up the pressure slow. Run for 1.5hra 2 for oats. Then try to bring it down slow. My grains and no pours come out so much better when I take my sweet ass time.

Err. I have about 60 prints ready to be packaged up and I'm just not feeling it. I'm going to buy some zipper bags and just cut them and throw them in individual bags. I appreciate a nice folded print always, but I'm falling behind and folding prints sucks.

How many bags you making? Makes a difference how you prep imo

One bag just lipa tek

Add roughly same volume of boiling water 6cups to 6 cups hwfp.  Seal bag, noc open air when cooled

A few bags use lime pasteurization, add lime and use warm water can also be noc’d open air

A bunch do supplemented bags, add 3 cups each hwfp and alfalfa pellets, add 6-7 cups water, let water absorb fold and sterilize in a 55 gallon steamer. Noc in front of FH.

Tonight I got drunk while working in my SAB. I labeled the last jar like this. "I'm pretty fucking sure this is contaminated, I'll be amazed if it's not. #high hopes."
Knowing my luck this will be the only jar that doesn't tam out.

I just spawned a jar I wrote BLARG!! on. Dropped the donor g2g jar in the SAB on the very last transfer knocking all kinds of shit around.

Looks like all the rest after they colonized...
