You have to scratch the spores off. That's the drawback in making a spore print dry in a jar. They're stuck to the bottom and probably won't come off without help. Use the tip of a syringe or sterilized implement of some kind.------------------ -snarf

Next time try making your print on a piece of plastic, then put the print in a NEW clean ziplock bag. When you're ready to make your syringe, squirt your cooled sterile water carefully into the ziplock (opened minimaly) squish the water over the print rubbing the spores off the plastic through the bag. With alcohol wipe off a section of the bag,and with a sterile needle, punture the bag and suck up the spore water.

sounds like a good method. But I dont quite understand it?

I get it! Let me restate it in my own words what I think he is saying.Instead of making your print on an index card, take a small piece of plastic (I like his idea and I'm going to use small pieces of plexiglass approx 2" x 2"), cover with glass as usual for a few days and then when the cap is finished printing, take the piece of plastic and place into a sandwich bag (ziploc). When you are ready to make a syringe, sterilize your syringe and have your syringe full of distilled water and squirt it into the bag through the zipper (open a tiny bit). Squarsh the water around (maybe using your fingernails) to scratch the spores off of the plastic so they are now mixed with the water. Hold the bag so that all the spore water is in a corner of it, and rub some alcohol on the OUTSIDE of the bag (just a bit!) where you are going to stick the syringe in, and stick it in and in one clean swoop suck it all back up. I think this is a neat idea and probably will work giving you an extremely potent syringe.

I'm not sure if I'd trust the sterility of a Ziplock bag though.

Another idea that really works is place a mushroom cap (of your choice)on the bottom of a shot glass. Cover with tin foil and let stand intill spores haved dropped. (this can take a few hours or a few days depends on mushroom and when it was picked but you can tell when a dark deposit is left behind. And just add water to the shot glass and there you have a perfect syringe. P.S you can keep the shot glasses with the spores in them usually as long as a spore print Good Luck!!!

So far, I have had no problem with sterility of ziplock bags. I actually eliminate the middle man and let the caps drop their spores directly in the ziplocks. Just put a fresh cap in a ziplock, put a couple drops of distilled water on top of the cap, seal the ziplock most of the way, and let it sit for 24 hours. After 24 hours, you can discard the cap or move it to fresh ziplocks to take 1-3 more prints. The prints store quite nicely in the sealed ziplocks. When I am ready to make spore syringes, I sterilize a half pint of distilled water and suck it up into a sterile syringe. I heat the needle to red hot and pierce it through the side of the bag. Then I mix the spores thoroughly through the bag msuck them back into the syringe, and inject the spore syringe back into the half pint. I do this with 2 prints for a half pint, but one should be enough if the prints are dark enough. Keep in mind that the first print taken is the one most likely to have contamination, as the contamination is usually dropped with the first spores. You might want to test this spore solution out on one jar before inoculating a whole batch to make sure there is no contamination. After that, you should have enough spore solution to keep you going for a while. You might also want to drape the bag with the cap in it with a clean cloth to add another level of cleanliness also. This method is so easy, it should almost be a tek.
