thanks so much for this thread Caps; been thinking for a while about how to decrease prep time and since i use pint masters for g2g transfers and am about to start transitioning to bags, this is the perfect time for me to find this post lol

I have a clean burma clone culture in the fridge imma expand to fresh agar tonight. will def prep some PPMs with the plates that result (i use oats) and post my results here.

More than likely ill end up using quart jars with the same amount of grain as im fairly limited on pint jars

ill also try a couple dif grain/water ratios to corroborate your results!

Cool guys... why I shared... I'm not diluted to think any of my process is revolutionary: but it's a little different, and the various stages are applicable to other processes... any little tidbit we can take from one another: that's the primary foundation for all of this in fact

I like it! Been doing g2g until 3-4th gen then doing jar to bag, like the idea of smaller jars with more noc points direct to bags. Would also be an easy way to make a bunch of jars for recieving lc to then noc some bags.

These are GREAT for testing LC as well: like, i dont evem test on agar if the culture looks happy in the broth... WBS Grains seem much less prone to bacteria than oats... seem to tolerate the extra moisture much better... thanks for that aye; something I failed to mention... EXCELLENT

Really?! Well shit, then why isn't WBS more popular? I've been all oats since starting. I decided to try your tek using millet in grain masters and transferring to oat bags. Should I just switch to WBS?

I'm on my way away from oats. My initial test on millet (aka the best of WBS  ) have me walking away from oats. The differences:

  • Millet is $4 more per 50# bag
  • Millet expands less than oats (I need 15 cups dry millet for what I can do with 10 cups dry oats)
  • Millet handles hydration better
  • Millet does well with a quick overnight soak alone (less babysitting)
  • Millet is slower to take off from a2g than oats
  • Millet is faster to recover from a shake
  • After a shake Millet growth speeds explode, much faster than oats
  • Millet is producing much less bacterial spawn

So... yeah, I'm moving away from oats.

dam straight shaper.

My only qualm with what you said is everytime i PC millet i have to literally bring an empty jar with my into the SAB to clear out some head space, as it expands like no other. Thats most likely due to me boiling it for too long, but i digress.

I fucking love millet. I may take oats out of the op, but my cultures really like it and the switch up from millet to oat is good for the culture, i assume. (<right?)

Well fuck I just bought a 75# bag of oats! Oh well, I'll burn through it quickly enough. If you're switching to millet, I'm switching to millet!

I'm running some prepless pinta o white millet meow. 1 cup o grain plus a heavy 1/3 cup water, like (1/3 + .5(1/3)) of water

IMHO, GRAIN IS GRAIN IS GRAIN IF it's prepped properly... WBS has a wider window of what "properly prepped" means for whatever reason... This is not to infer it's superior to oats: there are other cultivators who'll tell you "FUCK OATS"... Oats are easy enough to prep, and cheap enough to go through a 50lb bag daily...

Region plays a great deal in availability and price of certain grains... Cheapest I can find millet is twice as much as oats at $28 for 50lbs...

It's worked for straight WBS, filtered WBS, finch select (very little sunflower seeds), just millet, and oats! ALL at the same ratio... sadly: may have been the best looking oat jars I ever had
