Is this common for half pint jars

Recently, a friend was given some half pint jars from another friend and decided to inoculate. My friend has never done half pints and was kind of disappointed at the results. All of the girls are about 3inches in length and the caps are half an inch to an inch in diameter. Is this typical when doing half pints?
My friend has done probably thousands of pint and quart jars and has never seen this happen. Basically, he wants to know if this is some freak operator error or common with everyone.

The less substrate usually equals a smaller yeild.

I understand less sub. equals less yeild. but there are tons of these little girls opening so early. I just want to make sure its not my fault they are opening so early. I would rather have three huge girls than twenty small ones.

from what ive read smaller is mor trippage where as...:
2 grams 25-30 ity bitys maybe even aborts (picked correctly)=should of played it safe and eaten 1.5gs
2 grams 1 mushroom= meh should of just eaten three grams

I think this is mostly theoretical... I have read people say that they have eaten 2 grams of little bombers/aborts and then eaten 2 grams in one mushroom from the same batch and had an equivelant potency. I don't think it's even close to having to choose between "eating 1.5 of aborts" or "3g of a big mushroom." I would say at most, you might need to dose like .3 more of larger fruits to reach the psilocybin content of some little pins.
