Store bought manure is probably more compost than poo.

Look up black kow experiment by bigsurmoon.

He uses bk straight out the bag no mixing. I've yet to try it but it looks cool:cool:

I'm not talking about you bud, you actually provided an answer and i appreciate it. I appreciate everyones input, and I think we're all in agreement on everything in this thread. Coir is the shit, it's pretty contam resistant, and the availability and vector-ness of dung puts it well over the "worth-it' line for most everbody. I'm not looking to overhaul my op and implement dung in every tub. I'm just trying to try things out. Im scared of complancency in all areas of my life, i guess it's showing in my myc work.

you all are great.

And mushboy, that's what I've been seeing on most information pages regarding black kow, that it's mostly compost. I checked some other manures next to it at lowes, and it seems that almost all bagged-and-stacked manure (corporate farm trash) is composted. I got a bag of black kow and im gonna see how it performs next to my coir tubs, and maybe if it adds anything ill go on the hunt for fresh shit. I live in a major city that happens to be surrounded by farmland so i'm sure i wont have to drive more than 30min to find some horse/cow shit lol

Hahaha well when you said your giving up on an answer that confused me that's why I kept quoting myself, lmao my bad

But yeah adding manure really doesn't do to much for cubes, mainly just increases chance for contamination since its an extra step

But for pans and such manure is a necessity

Man my zoo is the second biggest in the states. why the fuck didnt i think of going there? Thanks mush..

Last question for anyone who might have an answer:  Is it beneficial to expose freshly pastuerized CVG to small amounts of open air, to "build microbes" or whatever? I've seen this concept mentioned across the shroomery, and it makes sense, but it also sounds like it could be one of those myco-wives tales.

Coir has no microbes so discussing coir pasteurization is like talking about football bats.

Imo of course:smoker:

Is that fact? I completely believe you, as the husk of anything has no nutritional value.
I will continue to pasteurize my coir because like i said, my grow area is gross. I've tried using just hydrated, slightly cooked, coir, and every time i was contaminating with green, red, and even once black, mold at pinning. With pasteurization, a slight mold treatment, and sealing my grow area, i've brought the rate down to a level im totally happy with. If dung starts fucking things up again, it'll be gone. Idk i just wanna see what it's about

Well what if someone did half cvg and half black kow and spawned normally, just for the purpose of expanding substrate

Would also obviously add more nutes to the nutritionless Coir (I know nutes come from spawn) but besides maybe a little higher contam risk I don’t see how added nutes in the substrate would be a bad thing

Honestly I dont know for sure.

But, what I do know is you can hydrate coir with cold tap water(no heat ever) and it works juuuuust fine.

If i were back in the spare bedroom of my house I'd be doing just that. Responsibility however has drove me into my disgusting basement that has been growing mold for well over 60 years.

Im scoping out apartments in new developments downtown, I have to move soon either way and i think moving into a newly built residence will take away a good portion of my contamination problems. Until then, careful movement in the SAB  :goodmorning:

Dont be so sure.

I do sterile work in a room with a cat box and moldy windowsills.

Clean spawn beats sporeloads.

youre right, i dont think i could say with complete confidence that my spawn sint SLIGHTLY bacterial. but i am still new, and i can say confidently that im doing everything i know how, following direction, and trying as hard as i can to keep everything perfect, and its getting there. I've got 6 tubs going right now, just harvested one, and none have contamed yet. Got through a beautiful first flush completely clean, i posted in the POTD. Well see how the rest go, but 2 are pinning and the rest are almost completely colonized. soon itll be time to clone and keep it going, and ive got about 30 jars, mostly b+ and golden teacher clone masters, so I've got alot of practice coming up to get this thing down. By the time this is done hopefully ill be out of this house lol. Hope everything is going well with you mush, keep your head up and say strong it always works out

I actually just did a standard 1 brick CVG bucket with 1 qt of black kow added. Not exactly half, but it's the same concept. I went a little short on the water, 4qts flat, and im about to open in up and test field capacity. With the information learned here, about the over capacity sub, I'll most likely add a bit of verm. Does anyone have a gif of true "field capacity"? the one on here that everyone has seen looks a little heavy

I have to say I have never tried straight coir and a bulk substrate. I have fresh HPOO available as my family owns horses. I am curious just to try it based on others results. I don’t have issues with my current situation but anything that saves time and creates the same results or better I would totally be down with.

Heres straight coir with 2qts spawn/ 2qts coco.

36.3 dried grams from each qt and just coco.

Check out shaperdreamings shoe box tek in my signature, it's got a nice gif showing field capacity

All field capacity is, is when you squeeze a handful of substrate only a drop or so of water comes out

My shits probably been over capacity for a while or i squeeze too hard because i usually get like 30 drops lol

I actually usually prepped with 5 qts instead of the traditional 4 just cause i dont really like misting.

Threw a 5lb bag of BK in 1000g coir/5qts verm/5.5qts water.
Spawned a handful of shoeboxes with it. See what happens.
