Store bought cow manure - Can it be used?

Hey fellow shroomerites!

I want to try a cow manure/straw casing but i dont know where to get manure. Can store bought manure be used? Iv heard some stuff about only certain types can be used, if so which types? Im in Ontario, Canada so if anyone here has worked with manure and knows what store to get the right kind at please speak up!

get steer manure and compost blend.
it works ok.

Hey phrozendata is there any other way to pasturize it oth than a PC with a filter bag? I only ask because i dont have any filter bags. Can i fill 1 quart jars with the substrate and PC? How about boiling in a pillow case?

Sterile/pastureize it like this.
mix with water to the desired moisture content and bake at 275 fir an hour then stir it up and bake it for another 30 mins.
So bake it at 250-275 for 90minutes. You'll of coarse have to rehydrate it after it's been sterilized...

Fd3000,

You don't use a PC in the pasteurization process. You really should do more studying. Try this link: Horse Poo Tek

mickey_rourke - As you see im not useing horse poo, im useing cow manure/straw and figured it would be pasturized differently.

AFAIK, any manure may be pasteurized the same way. Concerning my post, I didn't mean to offend. I just felt that someone with as much experience as yourself would be able to do a little searching and background research instead of taking the newbie way out.
