what types of manure are okay?

my best pal found a bag of DEHYDRATED 100% hen manure and a bag of COMPOSTED cow manure. are either of these okay? for spawning with oat/wheat straw?

Forget the chicken shit.

Some growers claim success with bagged manure. All my friends attempts with it were disappointing at best.

Dried horse turds are the way to go, IMO.

From what I have gathered,if it eats grass,it's good.Cow,horse,sheep. Might double check on the straw. I think if its got seeds on it,pasteurizing won't still leaves you with a pretty good risk of contams.

Chicken sh*t is to hot (high in N) & most bagged manure is good for a garden, but not substrates. Bovine manures somewhat aged outside (rain leachs it) is the big ticket. If you can find a pile, to shovel a P/U load out of. 6T

The trouble with bagged SO CALLED composted cow manure is, they LIE.

It is NOT generally composted the way a mushroom compost is. It is piled up & left to ROT, without being turned, to provide 02 :crazy:. It also usualy consists of 50% or more of wood waste byproducts. If that wood is pine, or any type evergreen, it is not a good thing to grow shrooms on.

Some folks get fair results from some bagged shitzz, others not. Because it is a local product, that differs from area to area. As, it is not viable to ship shit over long distances, without adding significant cost to the price. Expensive shitzz doesnt sell well.

Cities have horses around somewhere & they shit. Dairies provide milk. Cows shit manure. It's out there, you just have to find it.

i say give it a shot, but afoaf told me that he always does a 50/50 mix with wheat straw when he uses the store bought shit for a lot of reasons mentioned above. Lots of people bash the store bought shit, but it works. Although straight from the horses ass seems to work a lot better.

kramer reports good results with store bought cow manure.
so yes! try it you might like it  :shocked:
also to note most folks claim store bought compost sucks ass so only try a little at first. and make sure you have the proper moisture content, b/c after all, that is crucial

If there is a ZOO in your area. Most sell some form of ZooDoo, in bags or whatever. I would go with that, before I would go with a bag of so called manure compost from any Mart type store.

Also, most cities still have a few mounted cops on horseback. Those stables will usualy allow you to shovel all the shitzz you want. That is, if you can maintain a facade that it is for a rose gsarden & you arent so "noid" to go BS with them.

Also, look in the phone book, under "dairy". They have cows. Cows shit & getting rid of it is problimatical for them.

Also look under vets & horse boarding, or stables. Horse race tracks is another angle.

Or, go to a circus............like this Gal. She is a keeper......... :grin:

The galpal and her friends approached the horse track yesterday. There was a pile about 500metres by 25 metres of stable waste. The horse manure rolls right out along the edges and was easy to scoop up with buckets, AND their was Straw, and Hay in full bale's sitting near the top of the pile. Check it out. :wink:
