Tattoo autoclave effectiveness

Friend of mine has a small dry heat autoclave used for tattoo\salon tools that they offered to sell me. Just curious if anyone has experience with something similar?

Currently using stovetop PC for my sterilization needs, but this would seemingly be more convenient as I could set it up in my "lab" instead of transporting things through my house after PCing.

Tried looking it up but one I found says 300W and temp range maxes out at 200C, which seems low to me for something that should be sterilizing equipment. (Though I am unsure at this point if they are the same model)

You may be thinking Fahrenheit. 120° C is the norm for sterilizing. You may dry the f out of your stuff though with the dry heat... but I'm not familiar with tattoo autoclaves so I'm not sure if pressure is involved. If not you may be good if you wrap your stuffs tightly enough


why not just have the "lab" in your kitchen?

Sorry, that was a typo on my part. Site said 200F, however that may be a typo on their part. I found another one on eBay that does appear to appears to the original that the other was a clone of that does get hot enough with no pressure involve so I may check it out.
Friend only asking $20 so might offer a trade just to give it a shot.

Mostly because my kitchen is tiny. There is a room upstairs with no windows or vents that is essentially a giant SAB that I set up a table with my SAB and a shelf for supplies. It's easy to sanitize as there is not furniture or carpet and there is not foot traffic other than me going to in to do myco or extraction work. If one piece of <=$20 equipment can make that work a little easier it might be worth it. Stairs suck.

If it's similar to the 50-200°C generic ones I found online, then I'd pass. They don't pressurize anything and it will probably just boil your stuff until the moisture is gone. Maybe put the money toward an electric hotplate for your stove top PC?

Hospital autoclaves typically work just like a pressure cooker...

Buy it for 20 put on eBay for 100? Use it for your tools and till then.

Dry heat sterilization only works for tools and other dry parts. Since spawn has a substantial amount of moisture, the temperature will cap out at 100 degrees C, since that is the boiling point of water. You need pressure to up the boiling point to sterilization temperatures.

Was actually only planning on using it for equipment. Syringes dishes tweezers etc. I don't think it is big enough to fit any appreciable amount of grain or sub in it.

I realize this is likely not ideal, or absolutely necessary, or a fix all. Just a potential opportunity.

Its kinda pointless for us. You can sanitize tweezers and scalpel handles by simply wiping it with an alcohol soaked paper towel and sterilize business ends with a torch. Glass dishes can by sterilized along with your agar or simply in the oven. You can do anything this can do in your oven in fact but there's no need honestly. It's just going to take up space.
