Caution to anyone planning to hunt over the next few days particularly later today. Whilst the winds forecast occur once or twice most winters it has been quite a while since the last period that was this windy (gusts to 100km likely this afternoon and evening). Falling branches will occur in the forests. Thursday and Friday are less windy but still risky with gusts of 60-75km possible. Always check the warnings and forecasts before heading out.

Best bet is to wait it out until this weekend which will see winds ease. Most likely subs will need a few days to make use of the rain anyway.

Can also report there are still plenty of subs about in my northern pine patches :smile:

I found a tiny second flush with five small and not very happy looking subs at one of my spots. First time I found this spot a month or so ago there were 15 or so very healthy fully matured subs in the patch. This time there was one mature sub that looked like she'd been hanging in there for a good while, three small specimens that didn't look too happy, and one pin. I accidentally pulled the pin, thinking it was a small sub. Much shame. But good to see a second flush there.

Found some beautiful chunky subs today at one of my regular spots, but it's one of the patches that's usually last to fruit and usually a sign that the season hasn't got much left. This year does feel different though, especially with so many edibles still popping up nice and fresh. Guess we'll see.

Incredible finds and shots bob. I think i'll invest in a nice camera with my tax money.

Epic Bob! The diversity in this relatively small area of hills that is the southern mount lofties is truly remarkable. Similiar woodlovers like azurescens etc just don't seem to be quite as variable elsewhere in the world over such small areas. It's truly remarkable.

Was down in my northern patches today. Hundreds of healthy ones about. Looks like another major flush is underway.

Amazing photos Bob and Thing! Hunting in the same area haha.

Went for a look today, the first time in a few weeks. Found plenty of new ground, first time finding subs right out in the open, just patches of them on grass. Found a couple of different phenotypes out there, one group in particular I haven't seen posted before, with very thick stems and caps.


Even the pins were very thick and sturdy.

I went and had a look at earlier flushing patches, but they seem to have died right down now. Everywhere else though, there are subs galore. Finding random ones along trails and everything.

Thinking about broadening my horizons to inactive edibles. Time to start hunting around pines I think.
