A week's growth? Normal or slow?
    #26101940 -

Howdy. I have rye wheat n millet started exactly a week ago. Am worried it's a bit slow colonising. Going to shake at 30% but looks like that's gonna be a while away

I've had jars go much slower than that.

Cool. Just have had no success with grains yet so I'm getting a bit overbearing lol! I would say tho that they were good chunks of agar I threw in there and what you see isn't mayb as much growth as it appears

You should have cut the plate into numerous pieces or made a LI by mixing it with sterile water but as long as it’s clean that’s all that matters.

Looking fine. I might bet that your agar is so nutritious, they haven't seen a reason to abandon ship yet.

Haha hadn't thought of that. I'm using a pre mix agar powder just add water so not sure of it's makeupbut yea the myc grows like fuck and I'd say it had only colonised half of the wedges I dropped in. So happy days hopefully

Second week's growth:

Happy enough we're definitely on our way to 30% in some jars. It's interesting the two jars with micropore filter are lagging a bit. Also a bit disappointed in the rye. Was lead to believe it was superior to other grains. Altho I guess it's not a fair test at present

I'm going to go with the advice about LI for next batch of jars. Sounds like a game changer

Out of curiosities sake could you list the grains in the different jars in that pic, say left to right or something?

Clean cultures > G2G combined with sterile tek is all the game changer you will ever need to go as bulk as you can handle.

P.S. - Bags over jars for bulk (unless I am mistaken in assuming you are considering moving to LI for this reason)

When you say clean cultures u mean LC?

Hadn't actually considered bags. More because I have loads of jars. I'm not so much looking mad quantities more speeding up the process

Clean agar to grain, then sterile tek G2G is SUPER fast. I colonize 7+ pound bags in less than a week, and don't run near as much contamination risk IMO

Pure millet is great, but WBS is $15 for 40lbs at wally-world. Millet alone is expensive.

Pennington classic has a high ratio IME, I get rid of sunflower floaters and roll on.

I get the millet out of a pet store it's as cheap as the wbs and needs little washing or sorting so I'm probably going to go down that road. Having said that I need to test the yield for all these. That's the proper test if ya get me πŸ˜‰πŸ˜Š

no thats not a proper test.
Maybe if you had 100 of each with the same iso but fruiting one jar with different grains will not tell you anything about the grains. All properly prepared grains work.
