Yeah, but the ONLY way this will work (like recycling, protesting something, world peace, etc...) is if EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON THE PLANET takes a stance and does it collectively. It will not work any other way period. So, it won't happen. That passive aggressive "I care about the treatment of animals so I'm not eating meat" and watching absolutely horrifying films/docs on how food/meat gets to the store does absolutely nothing but make people sick a lot of the times obviously. (in more ways than just mentally) Power tripping people always try to influence others and impose their will on others, fuck them!

Northerner- I really hope the doc is a very good one and explains to your wife that if she needs to eat some meat, that she really does it as much as possible to retain health and have a long life with you. I heard what you said about watching helplessly as someone destroys their health and you just can't tell them anything that they will listen to. Good luck to you, the wife, family, and your loved ones.

PS- I do recycle though, it's easier here in Denver and having a house with the right bins.

Progressing trends still eventually add up to something significant - the amount of meat consumed by subsequent generations in the US has fallen consistently - that will amount to something eventually. I mean - when is there ever any, everyone on the planet instantly does it, sort of things? All progress is gradual, and sometimes even at times reversed.

A lot of people revolt against the idea of at all switching up their diets for any possible reason (Unless shit started to cost more ) - but even if you're not interested in the treatment of animals, there's something extremely significant to be said about our land use/resource use/food efficiency & pollution in regards to meat production which alone is worth a good deal of contemplation.

Alot of companies have grow up by or switched to making farm factories less abusive and more sustainable in the last decade.

The awareness and the vegans and the bitching has done something. Not nearly enough but you can buy grass fed beef and completely antibiotic free chicken and free range chicken eggs now.
Which gives consumers more power which may bring about more change.

I do respect what the animal liberation front does

They would break into labs or whatever and free animals

Not so long ago someone over here took some bolt cutters and freed a shit load of mink

The cops were looking for them , you can get a really long federal prison sentence for doing something like that , also will be charged as a terrorist

They also used to go around fire bombing delivery trucks + more , that is going a bit to far

To OP, everybody is different, eat what makes you feel the best.  There's no miracle diet, if there were we would all respond the same way to the same foods, which if you read about food stuff, we're all different.

Whole foods has a shirt that says "eat what makes you whole" or some shit like that, seems legit.

Regarding what watermelon mon said, People that are out there doing illegal stuff in the name of animal rights are fucking crazy, there's no need for that and doing anything violent for your cause just makes your cause look like fucking shit.  With such a small percentage of the world identifying as vegan, it seems like having some of them do some crazy ass shit would be detrimental to spreading information properly.

Mink is pretty low in demand these days because of consumers choosing to buy synthetic or handmedowns. Not because of the animal rights groups that attempt to sabotage it.

There's insurance for that. It's why money is really the only thing that speaks.

Yeah, there's not much tasty meat on a mink anyways. Seems a waste.

I'm gonna read and research a lot more at this stage. There's so much to know when you start messing with your diet rather than just eating everything. I've been threatening to put in a chook pen for ages, gonna move that plan forward. That way Mrs Northy can have organic cruelty free eggs at least to help her along.  :egg:

She would eat animal products if there was no cruelty involved. Like if I catch a fish or an animal she will eat it, but she won't consume packaged animal things from the supermarket shelf.

I would get milk goats if it wasn't a daily chore with no escape.

This is a good product for GI health, it has l-glutamine, enzymes, probiotics, whole foods, and essential cofactors for GI health, it's vegan.  I know some people say fuck supplements get what you need from food sources, but they can also be very helpful.

I know probiotics are best obtained from fermented foods like kombucha, kimchi, kraut, etc, and if you miss out on probiotics your mind will feel it because of how our microbiome is tied into our mental state.  Also, goodbelly makes great probiotic products, some even contain iron (green one I think) which many vegans lack.  Take vitamin C with plant-based iron to increase absorption.

A B-complex is good to take daily if you don't get enough of them through food sources, also algae, ahiflower, or other plant omegas.

Nobody should go strict vegan to fast, it's best to listen to your body and work yourself into it at a decent pace.  Regarding listening to your body, that shit is legit.  There will be times where I have felt off and my mind/intuition will be saying "do this or that" but if I think about it I will not do it, but if I trust my intuition which is my mind speaking, I feel fine.  There's a line in the cartoon version of the Beauty and the Beast Disney movie and it says "LeFeu I am afraid I have been thinking" and Lefeu says "a dangerous pastime I know" and there's a lot of truth in that.  Sometimes we think so much we fail to listen to what our system is trying to tell us.

She could be protein lacking, one thing I have found while throwing around dietary stuff is when it comes to veganism you definitely need more protein because the body uses the plant source of protein in a different way.  So 20grms of veg protein is not really on par with 20grms meat protein, so you might need a little bit more on the plant end of things, also make sure your protein sources are complete proteins which means they contain all essential amino acids.  Soy can also make people feel like shit, I have heard this a TON!  I don't like soy, makes me feel off.

I am not saying any of those things are your partners issue, just throwing that out there.

I will say one thing, if you go vegan for a bit and then you eat animal stuff you will feel it.  The animal stuff will make your body ache and feel off, but I guess with any major dietary change you have to transition properly, changing from one way of eating to another probably all the time probably makes your system say WTF!

My family went Vegan for eight months because we were brainwashed into believing it was healthy. We also stopped eating out and started to always eat organic and non gmo. We felt really good at first but as time went on we began to feel worse and worse. We are now following a Paleo style diet but we sometimes use raw milk and cheese in our meals. We eat a ton of healthy fats. My husband is very sensitive to vegetables so he follows more of a carnivore style diet. We feel healthier than ever. Also we take probiotics/prebiotics daily. Fish oil and trace minerals are excellent supplements to take on a daily basis as well.

https://science.slashdot.org/story/18/09/06/2153223/study-finds-probiotics-not-as-beneficial-for-gut-health-as-previously-thought

https://www.mic.com/articles/143088/the-benefits-of-probiotics-are-probably-bullshit-according-to-science
"According to our systematic review, no convincing evidence exists for consistent effects of examined probiotics on fecal microbiota composition in healthy adults, despite probiotic products being consumed to a large extent by the general population," Nadja Buus Kristensen, a Ph.D. student at the University of Copenhagen and a junior author of the study, said, according to the Guardian.

Lead researcher, Oluf Pedersen, and his team looked at seven studies that measured the impact probiotics — "good bacteria" thought to improve gut health and often taken in food-, drink- or pill-form — have on poop.

They reviewed studies that included adults of almost every age (19 to 88) in groups of between 21 and 81 people, according to the Daily Beast. None were taking other supplements and none had a preexisting digestive condition. Comparing feces from people ingesting probiotic drinks, capsules and biscuits with feces from those who weren't, Pedersen and his team found that the probiotic users registered microbially improved poop in only one trial.

The results may have been clouded by the different types of bacteria participants ingested, as well as by their individual diets. But dietary supplements, which in the U.S. aren't regulated by the Food and Drug Administration, are always of questionable efficacy. It's possible that consuming them could mitigate vaginal yeast infections, alleviate irritable bowel syndrome, combat intestinal infections and even boost the immune system, but whether or not probiotics work seems to depend on whether or not there's something there to treat.

"While there is some evidence from previous reviews that probiotic interventions may benefit those with disease-associated imbalances of the gut microbiota, there is little evidence of an effect in healthy individuals," Pedersen said, according to the Guardian.

First, Lets talk probiotics. The Study by Vanderbilt University was conducted to see why certain disease processes effect different ethnic groups. The diseases they studied ranged from Coronary artery disease to IBS. GUT health is becoming more and more of a thing in the wider media narrative and therefore many preventative remedies are touted including Greek Yogurt and Probiotic Supplements. These bacteria filled solutions (or so we think) are made to boost the beneficial bacteria in your small intestine and improve your immune system and general health. The scientists at Vanderbilt studied these probiotics on multiple subjects from different ethnicities and found that ;
1. The bacteria amounts in over the Counter Probiotics are negligible. That means the ‘BILLIONS’ of bacteria that the capsules claim to be containing is really a bunch of bullshit. I had a feeling this is the case even that live bacteria live in food not capsules and over the counter solutions are rarely plausible.
2. The bacteria in the probiotics may not be what you ACTUALLY need! That is, a common bacteria like Bifidobacteria  that is touted in most pills, is NOT what you may need to be putting in your body!. Nature knows best. We need balance and we all must understand that our different tastes in food and lifestyle is a direct result of our bacterial make up.

YOUR GUT IS WHO YOU ARE!

The Vanderbuilt Study identified 12 different bacteria, which are not usually the prominent ones listed on your bottles of Probiotics. They found that the contents of your GUT Bacteria and the amount of each varies widely depending on the make up of your ethnicity and geographical location.
The 12 bacteria featured in this research are:

Christensenellaceae

Clostridiales

Coriobacteriaceae

Dehalobacteriaceae

Odoribacter

Odoribacteriaceae

Peptococcaceae

RF39

Rikenellaceae

Veillonella

Verrucomicrobiaceae

Victivallaceae

Now, Before I lose you . let me tell you about a Frickin cool new technology that is available to YOU right now that can help you control your GUT bacteria (and by extension your health) through food . The Product is VIOME.com and it harnesses the power of your Bacteria by using Artificial Intelligence. The AI scans your microbiome and tells you which bacteria are expressing and how they are expressing. This is important and a big breakthrough for those of us that care deeply about a personalized approach to our health.

You will never get to your peak level of performance unless you understand what is going on with your Blood and Bacteria.

Abstract
Intestinal microbiota plays an important role in human health, and its composition is determined by several factors, such as diet and host genotype. However, thus far it has remained unknown which host genes are determinants for the microbiota composition. We studied the diversity and abundance of dominant bacteria and bifidobacteria from the faecal samples of 71 healthy individuals. In this cohort, 14 were non-secretor individuals and the remainders were secretors. The secretor status is defined by the expression of the ABH and Lewis histo-blood group antigens in the intestinal mucus and other secretions. It is determined by fucosyltransferase 2 enzyme, encoded by the FUT2 gene. Non-functional enzyme resulting from a nonsense mutation in the FUT2 gene leads to the non-secretor phenotype. PCR-DGGE and qPCR methods were applied for the intestinal microbiota analysis. Principal component analysis of bifidobacterial DGGE profiles showed that the samples of non-secretor individuals formed a separate cluster within the secretor samples. Moreover, bifidobacterial diversity (p<0.0001), richness (p<0.0003), and abundance (p<0.05) were significantly reduced in the samples from the non-secretor individuals as compared with those from the secretor individuals. The non-secretor individuals lacked, or were rarely colonized by, several genotypes related to B. bifidum, B. adolescentis and B. catenulatum/pseudocatenulatum. In contrast to bifidobacteria, several bacterial genotypes were more common and the richness (p<0.04) of dominant bacteria as detected by PCR-DGGE was higher in the non-secretor individuals than in the secretor individuals. We showed that the diversity and composition of the human bifidobacterial population is strongly associated with the histo-blood group ABH secretor/non-secretor status, which consequently appears to be one of the host genetic determinants for the composition of the intestinal microbiota. This association can be explained by the difference between the secretor and non-secretor individuals in their expression of ABH and Lewis glycan epitopes in the mucosa.

Just fucking eat a balanced diet of regular food, and if you can check with a dietitian and doc to get any food alergies out of the way. WTF do people want a quick fix to health and diet? WTF do people want all these magic supplements that will supposedly help them live healthier lives and give them ore energy and help the animals and the planet etc ad nauseum? WTF do people feel useless self imposed guilt at the world? WTF are so many people just absolutely controlled by media? *sigh*

I'm not perfect by any means but I do get very frustrated when I see people posting about taking useless supplements and diets. Going to a doc and or nutritionist and getting tests to reveal why the GI system is out of wack and they are feeling bad is key to getting back on track. I'm not a doc, and have only been a nurse a short time. I do feel very lucky to have gotten some really good genes for the most part as well. Good luck to everyone who has problems. As far as being a vegan and getting upset about animal cruelty, there's not much else to say. Research as much as possible and not just to fad websites (which I may have posted).

This sounds like very legitimate information, but I'm not you, nor am I a nutritionist or doc.

https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0020113
Introduction
Growing evidence shows that the composition and diversity of the microbiota in the human intestine can have a surprisingly strong impact on the well-being and health of the host. For example, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has been associated with the disturbance of the intestinal microbiota, resulting in the modulation and dysregulation of the inflammatory responses in the intestine [1]. Microbiota composition has been shown to have an effect on the energy harvest and storage of the host [2] and thus, microbiota alterations associated with obesity may have a role in weight-associated health problems.

The microbiota composition in the human intestinal tract is determined by several factors, such as host genotype, health status, age, microbial interactions, and diet [3]. Based on numerous intervention studies, there is convincing evidence for the influence of the diet on the intestinal microbiota (e.g. [4], [5]). In contrast, although growing evidence indicates that host genetic background has a significant impact on the microbiota composition in the intestine, no specific genetic factors determining the intestinal microbiota composition have been established to date. Twin studies applying plate counts, PCR-DGGE fingerprinting or DNA microarrays have shown a higher similarity in the microbiota composition between monozygotic twins than between dizygotic twins, unrelated persons, marital couples and family members [6]–[7], thus clearly pointing to a strong effect of host genetics. In the study by Turnbaugh et al. [8], the pyrosequencing analysis also showed a higher level of similarity in the microbiota composition in twin pairs than between twins and their mothers or unrelated persons, although in their study the similarity of the microbiota between monozygotic twins did not differ from that of dizygotic twins.

The human intestinal tract is colonised with highly diverse and numerous microbiota which has an established role in maintaining the intestinal homeostasis. A particularly interesting group is bifidobacteria, which comprise the predominant intestinal microbiota in infants and are abundant also in the adult population comprising up to 6% of the normal intestinal microbiota [9]. An adult intestine is typically colonised with one to four bifidobacterial species [10], B. longum, B. adolescentis, B. bifidum and B. catenulatum being the most prevalent [11], [12]. Bifidobacteria have beneficial properties, such as immunomodulatory and pathogen inhibition effects (reviewed by [13]). They also are commonly incorporated in probiotic products.

The A, B and H blood group antigens are α1,2-linked fucose containing glycans present on glycoproteins and glycolipids of erythrocytes (red blood cells) in individuals representing A, B and H blood groups, respectively. The enzyme fucosyltransferase 1 encoded by the FUT1 gene is responsible for the synthesis of ABH antigens on erythrocytes. The ABH antigens are also expressed in mucus and other secretions, where their expression is generated by another enzyme, fucosyltransferase 2 (secretor type α1,2-fucosyltransferase) encoded by the FUT2 gene. In ABH secretor individuals (80% of Caucasians) fucosyltransferase 2 converts type 1 N-acetyllactosamine glycan chains to H antigen, which functions as a precursor for the A, B and Lewis b antigens. Non-secretor individuals do not express active fucosyltransferase 2 enzyme due to a non-sense mutation in the FUT2 gene and therefore they are not able to express the ABH antigens in their mucus and other secretions. The FUT2 gene together with the FUT3 gene encoding fucosyltransferase 3 (Lewis type α1,3/4-fucosyltransferase), is also required for the synthesis of Lewis b histo-blood group (Le a−b+) antigens in secretions. In non-secretor individuals, the FUT3 gives rise to the Lewis a histo-blood group (Le a+b−) antigen due to non-functional fucosyltransferase 2. Lewis negative (Le a−b−) individuals have a mutation in FUT3 gene leading to Lewis null phenotype, irrespective of the secretor status or FUT2 gene. These mucosal ABH and Lewis histo-blood group antigens are known to serve as an energy source [14] and adhesion receptors for many microbes [15], and thus could play a role in shaping the microbiota composition of the host.

In the present study, we report that the genetic variation in the human fucosyltransferase 2 (FUT2) gene determining the presence of mucosal α1,2-fucosylated glycan structures, such as ABH and Lewis b histo-blood group antigens, is strongly associated with the microbiota composition, in particular that of bifidobacteria, in the human intestinal tract. We studied the association of the secretor status (determined by the FUT2 gene) with the intestinal microbiota composition by comparing the dominant bacterial and bifidobacterial populations in faecal samples of non-secretor and secretor individuals. The denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) and qPCR analysis showed that the composition of the intestinal microbiota and particularly bifidobacteria was strongly associated with the host's secretor status. Secretor status determining the expression of the ABH and Lewis b glycan epitopes in the human intestine seems to be one of the host features significantly shaping the composition of bifidobacteria in the intestine.

Let me add that no  matter how built, healthy, strong, length of stamina, etc.... you'll only add 2-5 years onto your life if you work out all the time and diet properly really. Ever see a 110 year old runner, weigh lifter, gymnast etc...??? HELL NO! eventually it all goes away! Genes predict how long you live 99%. Eventually all the looks, beauty, and health goes no matter what the fuck you do! Enjoy your life people!
