they are packed by store employees not farmers. pack home grown cubes like that and id bet they rot hella fast.

Now they're only selling truffels in the neatherlands but cubes were sold in heat sealed plastic bags or in Tupperware with a little hole poked in em.

Some species last longer than others but they're all about a week. All the farmers markets around here put them in leftover tomato plastic cup/trays and Saran them. Poke a hole if you want they might last an extra day

I have had the opposite experience, plastic makes them rot faster, now I have had fresh cubes in paper dry cracker dry in the fridge without rotting.  It could depend upon where you are in the world,  it's hot and humid af here.
