DMT - I feel bad for Rick Strassman * 1
    #25993404 -

Rick Strassman, if you don't know, was the doctor that restarted psychedelic research with DMT in the 1990s.  They made a documentary about it called DMT The Spirit Molecule, based on the book he wrote of the same name.

If you haven't read the book, I highly recommend it.  It also paints a very different picture than the documentary does.  Which brings me to what I want to say.

This poor guy.  Took him years to get permission and get the supplies.  The hospital gave him a room right above the trash compactor.  Even with experienced trippers for volunteers, 26/60 people had some kind of negative reaction, including a couple of scary issues with blood pressure.

His wife got cancer, and later divorced him.  His graduate student was out of control.  His buddhist community excommunicated him.

But to me, this next one is the kicker:

Hardly anyone changed their life as a result of their experience.

Why the hell not?  That's a bit hard to square with the overwhelmingly positive reports from the internet, perhaps more so with ayahuasca, but still--how can you not change your life as a result of a psychedelic near-death experience?  To me, psychedelics demand a response.

Was it the hospital setting?  Was it the trash compactor?  Was it the fact that he did them as physiological studies, not therapeutic studies?  Was it the IV route of administration?  Thoughts?

The more I learn about psychedelics, the more convinced I am that there's a "right way" to do them and a "wrong way," although I try not to judge, and I wouldn't want to define those ways too tightly.

But clearly, Rick Strassman had something wrong, and it cost him dearly.  What do you guys think that might have been?

yeah I thought it was weird when I read that at the end of the book. I thought for sure lots of people would have changed their lives. If I remember correctly (and I haven't read it in ages), they had their positive changes until about the 6 month check up, then at the 1 year check up they were back to baseline or something like that.

how long did the actual study go for again? I think it proves that ideally after your honeymoon period you should dose at certain intervals,  maybe every 3 months or so, to solidify yourself (just guessing). and maybe after a few years of this then you will no longer feel the need for it and your changes will be well established.

and I wonder what the results would have been if they swapped strait dmt for changa (changa allegedly being easier to integrate, due to the longer duration and the help of the other plants/herbs in the mix)

Because the path of least resistance is an easier one too take.

You may have some astounding revelations on DMT but astounding does not always mean useful.

It's the integration of the DMT experience that provides value, not the experience itself. The search for meaning and the and the follow through implementing that meaning as tangible change in ones life. It's harder than it sounds. It took me a year and a half to implement the last lesson I took from DMT. The stuff cuts right to the core.

People think they can take the hit and get there, wherever "there" is for them. They don't realise it's just the first step on a long path with no signs to point the way. Stupid documentaries glorifying the molecule really haven't helped at all.

They also had rectal thermometers in place at the time of the trips too. Can't make for a relaxing introspective trip with this thing in your ass.

This is a dumb ass post. Lmao... you sound so stupid.

DMT does nothing that change your life, let alone give you life lessons. It’s a just an insane mind fuck of insane visuals while at he same time losing control of your body. It’s more scary to most people that do it and hesitate to do it again.

But again... your post and outlook on this whole thing is so dumb it makes me mad. Was it the trash compactor... lmao...

I think a moderator should kick you off this thing. You try to teach dmt extractions using plastic, you try to teach dmt storage improperly then you call this guy stupid for no reason at all. It's time for you to go..

Speak for yourself. People have been using this medicine for spiritual and personal introspection and healing for 1000s of years. Just because you get none of that smoking your plastic laced DMT in a crack pipe does not mean it's not a useful tool.
You treat it with no respect, it gives none back. It's just a junkies hit to you so that's what you get.

I do not teach anyone to extract with plastic first off. I have used a plastic blaster in the past and all I said was that it works fine and there was no plastic at all in my extractions. They works just fine. And whenever I post something, all you people come at me attacking me relentlessly. It’s time for you to relax.

Don’t want to use plastic.  I think people get crack pipe and meth pipe mixed up.  A crack pipe or “stem” as they call it with chor boy is fine, works well.  It’s essentially what The Machine is if I remember.  The meth pipe with the bulb is what you want to avoid, those are no bueno.  I think I’ve seen people mix up the two.

You would think so, but seeing Vinny's posts I know he's serious.

The way he did it the first time with everything concerning DMT is the best way there is and that's a fact, apparently. The rest of us have to learn through trial and experience but not this guy.

:doublefacepalm:
