My friend always feels ill...
    #1844303 - 08/23/03 11:33 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Hey guys,

I come in hopes to help my friend, and try and get him back onto the mushroom-horse. Here are some facts about my friend:

-He's 25
-He's done shrooms about 10 times
-He says he's gotten sick* about 70% of the time
-The most he's done is 2g
-The average amount he does is 1.5g
-Cigarette smoker
-Avid pot-smoker
-Loves hash
-Has experimented with other drugs

Basically, on his latest trip, he had about 45 minutes of good tripping (2g) then 2 hours of a sick-to-his-stomach feeling, followed by 4 hours of just feeling bad. He says he has to fight to not throw up and feels terrible to the point where he says he won't do them again.

He said the sickness feeling came in waves. I asked him all the questions and it looks like its not a psychological problem. He said the other friends he was with were not sick, and were quite messed, so it wasn't the product either.

He is not allergic to mushrooms either, so that's not it.

We've yet to trip together, and I would very much like to because we like the same music, activities, etc. So I want to get him back on the horse, but I don't want him feeling terrible because it'll drag me down, and it sucks to see a friend like that.

Any ideas? Thanks a ton in advance guys.

Lie down and don't move for the first couple of hours. That should reduce nausea.

Never heard of shrooms making anyone that ill tho - you sure it isn't a psychological thing he's got? If he's been sick before he'll be thinking "I'm going to be sick in an hour or two" and sure enough he will be.

he's either got the wrong outlook on the experience, needs to puke (maybe take a shit?), or he mushrooms simply aren't "compatible" with him.

is he eating the shrooms along with rice and beans?

Have you tried ginger capsules? They helped me avoid nausea quite nicely.

He's pretty sure that it is not a psych. problem, and I believe him.  I'm pretty sure he's anti-throwing-up

Ginger capsules....never heard of em, would you care to elaborate?

Ginger has some anti-nausea properties. You could also get candied ginger, or ginger tea...

could be that once he started puking he got it in his head that he was sick and could have magnified the nausea, try giving him a placebo or something and tell him its somethin for the nausea

He doesn't actually throw up, he says his stomach just feels sick and he had to fight to not puke towards the end of the trip.

It can be very easy to ruin your trip by THINKING you've ruined your trip

Suggestions:

1 - Try tea. However, this could backfire, as the trip will hit you all at once pretty quick, however, it may be a lil easier on the digestive tract.

2 - Take some dramamine. May help out with the nausea somewhat by reducing vertigo effects.

3 - Use ginger as a placebo. Get some ginger root bark capsules from GNC or other health store, or get some gingerbread cookies. I bet it would definiteally work if he started freaking out about being sick, and you gave him one of the ginger capsules saying it would get rid of the nausea. Betcha the placebo and the beneficial properties of ginger will do the trick.

Hope these tips help!
