Yeah I mean I toss a lot of them, all the floaters, mainly if they don't float I leave them, the number of sunflower seeds in the spawn is very low with the jars i've ran recently. Maybe i'll go back to grabbing the wild finch seed with no sunflower seeds :shrug:

I just found this cheap and figured I would try it.

Those plates are probably dead just a heads up

Why do you say they're dead?

I just used one weeks ago and got all the jars i've done in the last few weeks or month or so

I got probably over a lb of mushrooms from the jars so far

All my pics from the last 2 months came from one of those old plates in my fridge

edit: I guess by weeks I mean 2 months ago or so

So cool to see something like this verified by personal experience :hatsoff:

I'm going to make some new agar plates right now and then take a fruit to agar.

Probably cut 5 pieces or so out of the fruit and transfer to agar then transfer those to another 15 plates or so.

From my experience and observation...

Drop the coffee - it's not worth the risk

I have used WBS for 20+ years and always strain the floaters and sunflower seeds off when I soak and rinse. That funky shell void around the seed is a culprit and they do contam from what I have seen.

You are on the biggest culprit and that is the wrong moisture content.

I'm just pointing out what was stated earlier about being to wet and causing bacteria problems.

Regarding the grow on the sunflower seeds - you can use them straight because they have the right moisture content.
Mixed with WBS they always get too wet and cause problems.
Grain and sunflower seeds take moisture on differently.

WBS is a mix so hydration can be tricky as prepping millet and milo is different. Come over to the oat side...

I buy them 50lb/$16 and that's considered pricey. I pour like 10-15lb in a pot. Add water to fill pot. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to maintain the boil. Remove from heat when thoroughly cooked, but not overcooked. Drain, and air dry.

They use oats to grow Morels.:smoker:

Yeah I might give this a shot. I still have a bunch of WBS left.

Maybe ill try to use it up with these old plates, and move this tissue sample to new ones then start working with those on oats

see how it goes

The grains in wbs are all different sizes. Of course they take moisture differently but you can certainly leave sfs in the mix and have no issues.

Soak your wbs do not simmer:oldman:
