moonlighting lichen

i always thought they where mushrooms until someone pointed out to me that they where in fact lichen.from then on I've been wondering if it was by chance that the lichen grew like this or if in fact somewhere along the line it got mixed up in the mushroom business. does anyone know anything about these things? they grow everywhere in the woods where i live.

try the mushroom hunting forum....we don't cultivate lichen, nice pic you downloaded though...cheers

Lichen are not mushrooms, lichen is lichen. Those things with stems and caps in your pic are mushrooms. The green stuff look like they may be lichen. The monitor I'm on is low quality. They sometimes grow together.
