I have been studying and researching Permaculture for over a decade
I am currently involved in a private research effort as well concerning the remediation of baron or struggling landscapes and the effects and benefits of fungal colonies
Thats where you want to startVVVV
If I could point oyu anywhere it would be
Bill mollison David holmgren Geoff lawton
and the godfather of all things that grow, Sepp holzer from the Austrian mountains he lives in alpine altitudes and grows Bananas
Bill mollison and co- founder David Holmgren coined the term Permaculture in the 70's as a launching of ideologies that would replace modern agro practices in an effort to build and sustain self perpetuating infrastructures in contrast to the otherwise failing system of the modern worlds ideologies on govn't controlled food supply and a decrease in proper human settlements.
to me permeculture is the design practice of creating truly sustainable Bio infrastructures that mimic relationships with natural ecosystems. in order to be successful we must observe through deep, protracted observation of the natural surroundings in order to creat design systems that create conditions conducive to life around us.
Geoff lawton is under the tutelage of bill mollison and is one of the wolds formost experts on the subject
Also look at dan jason from the san juan islands
Geoff lawton did a remediation project called greening the desert where it involved easing the salt from the Sahara Desert located between the Sinai Peninsula and the Dead Sea.
this project had an amazing find, after the desert had been successfully greened and a thriving food supply been planted, the native peoples of that land called back and said
Whats going on!!!!!!! ...they freaked out!
Geoff lawton was like what the eff dudes whats wrong....the native poeples said there was something wrong with the land
So Geoff and the team flew over there and found
qyuite an amazing study and fascinating tale, I sure hope this helps you out
I have a project with Fungus balls similar to geoff lawtons studies.
I also am going to the university in AU to study under geoff lawton and bill mollison so I am super excited.

Pscientist said: The idea of permaculture is indeed interesting but I need to focus more on remediation of spills, or heavy metal deposits, and organics
The reason this never got off the ground commercially is because it doesn't work. Fungi are great for the soil, they're great for road reclamation, they're great for improving the health of the soil, stream bank stabilization, and yes, they'll absorb heavy metals and metabolize some petroleum fuels.
The problem is fungi will not penetrate very deep into the soil, and spills often soak in much farther than the fungi can reach. One still needs to dig up the soil all the way down as far as the contaminants have penetrated and haul it off. Once spread out on tarps or in a containment pond, it can be mixed with organic material and fungi, but the costs of such an approach are far higher than traditional methods. RR

If you cannot find a copy of MR in trade in the marketplace your next best bet would be Chapters.ca . They have it 34% off the list price and shipping usually takes 1-3 days from within Canada. Spend $39 or more and you get free shipping as well.
Good luck with your project!
